There is precedent for this kind of reasoning: Obama, as President, isn't remotely like the image he projected as a presidential candidate.

1. He doesn't have to cave to them now, most Americans agree with him
Problem is, Obama only listens to his DINO advisors and the liberal media who keep telling him he has to cave.

8. He has to work with a Republican House.
And before that, he had a Senate that was constantly filibustering him. Lieberman is an Independent who often sides with Republicans, and after Kennedy's death, even Lieberman's vote wasn't enough to beat a filibuster.

2. I tend to believe...Obama knew exactly what he was doing and he played
them like a fiddle.... it was a risky move but it paid off

Independents are very likely to vote for a left-centrist candidate, and we can't win without a good proportion of Independent votes.
