The deal wouldn't have passed the House without Democratic support
Roll call

Boehner got the support of 208 Republicans and 140 Democrats.

28 Republicans and 40 Democrats voted no.

4 Republicans and 10 Democrats did not vote.

Democrats and no/non-voters totaled 224.

Even with the four non-voting Republicans, he would have been 8 votes short, which would have to come from Democrats.

1. Oh, it's their fault, not his fault.

2. Not that I understand code, but
it's worth pointing out that Boehner is a a skilled legislator.

5. That was not the "deal"

It was a CR to keep the government running for a few more days until the deal is finalized in writing and can be voted on. That will be next week sometime. "the final agreement should be approved next week." http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/reid-says-impasse-based-on-abortion-funding-boehner-denies-it/2011/04/08/AFO40U1C_story.html

6. It was part of the deal
The CR was contingent on the larger deal. That's why it was voted on in at the last minute.

It still wouldn't have passed without Democratic support.

It shows that 28 Republicans definitely wanted a government shutdown.
