Former Sen. Alan Simpson: ‘We have homphobes in our party’
By Emi Kolawole

Alan K. Simpson, a former Republican senator from Wyoming known for being an outspoken centrist, laid into his party on Monday during an appearance on MSNBC’s Hardball, criticizing conservative Republicans’ position on abortion and homosexuality.

“Who the hell is for abortion?” said Simpson.“I don’t know anybody running around with a sign that says ‘have an abortion, they’re wonderful.’ They’re hideous. But they’re a deeply intimate and personal decision and I don’t think men legislators should even vote on the issue.”

“Then you’ve got homosexuality — you’ve got ‘don’t ask, don’t tell,’” said Simpson, “We’ve got homphobes in our party. That’s disgusting to me. We’re all human beings, we’re all God’s children.”

Simpson went on, criticizing former senator and presidential hopeful Rick Santorum (R-Penn.) for saying “some cruel things — cruel, cruel things about homosexuals.”

“If that’s the kind of guys that are going to be on my ticket — you know, it makes you sort out hard what Reagan said, ‘stick with your folks,’ but I’m not sticking with people who are homophobic, anti-women — moral values, while you’re diddling your secretary, while you’re giving a speech on moral values. Come on, get off of it.”

2. sky is blue ...
(on cloudless days and at mid-day ... I'll get flamers with all kinds of stipulations)

also, they've got racists in their party, too ... (but then, the Repugniconvicts will claim that 99 percent of blacks are racists too ...)

4. Retire from GOP political office, and out comes the truth.
Funny how that happens.

5. Always good to hear a person speak their mind against
homophobes rather than announcing that they will be forever listened to at one's table and all of that. We also have homophobes in our Party, we have no one who dares to speak that truth, we have instead leadership which plays apologist for the hypocritical homophobes, speak softly about them, hire them as surrogates.
Good for Alan Simpson, something I never thought I'd say. We know where he stands.

6. They're rehabbing Simpson's image ahead of Obama's endorsement -- even saw something in Gawker
I think that media company has some ties to the admin. They did some hit pieces on Julian Assange a couple months back. They take some curious stances.

7. Thank you, Captain Obvious
The Republican Party is filled to the brim (overflowing, actually) with with racists, homophobes, misognynists, and other assorted political miscreants. The intolerance of the Republican Party is repugnant and should be to every member of the human race. Why so many otherwise decent, sane people proudly call themselves Republicans and/or vote for them continues to confound and mystify me.
