Let's wait until Obama unveils his plan before we jump to any conclusions
We don't know if he's going to endorse the Bowles-Simpson commission recommendations or not. There was a lot of speculation that Obama would unveil Social Security cuts in his SOTU address, but he never did.

Who knows, Obama could actually end up endorsing many of the recommendations in the Congressional Progressive Caucus proposal.

Let's wait until Obama's budget plan is unveiled before we jump to conclusions.

In fact, we are always being told not to jump to conclusions until it's too late to do so.

Is the issue what he puts forward, or what the GOP House will agree to.

Bottom line ... your bet is BS, and you know it.

18. How does Obama force the GOP House to vote FOR a tax increase
on the rich?

He is not God, is not King.

Have you taken a civics class?

btw ... you went from Obama supporting an outcome (claiming he won't), to Obama needing to get it passed through a GOP House.

You could not be more transparent.

21. Are you listening to yourself? You already made up your mind these tax increases wont go anywhere
Edited on Tue Apr-12-11 03:55 PM by no limit
and you want me to give Obama some kind of trothy for proposing them?

And your argument is actually totally wrong here. To get these tax increases Obama doesn't have to do a damn thing, the Bush tax cuts expire at the end of 2012 on their own. So the only way they get extended is if Obama signs an extension in to law.

I just find it absolutely astonishing how defeatist you guys are. Before Obama even proposes them you already throw up a white flag. Jesus fucking christ.

28. Don;t think I said Obama gets a trophy.
YOU claimed Obama would not support a certain set of items.

When I challenged you about that, and you replied that his "support" was not enough, and that the GOP House had to PASS THEM as well.

YOU moved the goal posts. Which is not a huge surprise around here.

Oh ... and yes, you are correct about one thing ... the Bush tax cuts are set to expire at the end of 2012. And there is only ONE course of action that ensures that ... and that is re-electing Obama.

See, Obama could not let them expire at the end of 2010 because YOU and everyone else would be screaming that he raised taxes on the 95% making under 205k. The fact that the tax cuts for the rich had also expire would be a NON-ISSUE ... and DU and the media would be calling it Obama's READ MY LIPS moment.

In 2012, that is no longer hanging over his head.

But I digress.

You began by claiming Obama would not support certain things. I gave you one that he definitely will support.

And then you moved the goal posts. The Obstructionist GOP was going to have to offer and pass those increases. That's right ... the HOUSE decides what is and is not in their spending bills. But you think Obama can force them to ADD those tax increases.

Talk about fantasy land.

30. That's not how this began. This began with you saying Obama would support tax increases
Edited on Tue Apr-12-11 05:13 PM by no limit
I said I will bet you $100 those tax increases won't become law. Did you dispute that? Nope, you did not. In fact you conceded it. Yet you are here claiming I need to give Obama credit simply because he proposed something.

If the tax cuts expire in 2012 then Obama, even if he isn't re-elected, will still be president at the time. And if republicans try to pass these tax breaks again in 2013 they would need the senate, which I'm sure will have atleast 40 democrats in it to filibuster. So all the excuses you keep making for this administration are simply incorrect.

You are also attirbuting positions to me which are false. The entire time we were debating Bush tax cuts last year I was calling for all of them to expire, as most on the left that have problems with Obama were. If Obama had done that me along with others would have offered nothing but praise. So please, stop making shit up.

Finally, you don't think it's absolutely laughable you already threw up the white flag on this issue before Obama even proposed it? How fucking pathetic is that? Did the democrats get anything they wanted in 2007 and 2008 when they had the house AND the senate just not the white house? This was after American voters gave them a huge mandate. Name a single thing that had any significance which they wanted and they got. Because they certainly didn't prosecute anyone in the Bush admin for breaking laws. They legalized warrentless wiretapping while giving telecoms retroactive immunity for spying on us. They gave Bush every single dollar he asaked for when it came to Iraq and Afghanistan. And they even funded his surge which they swore they were against.

Yet you are here 3/4 years later telling me that Obama can't get anything he wants (all he can do is propose it) because republicans have control of the house. Give me a fucking break.

32. This is how YOU started this thread ...
"LOL..Obama support Progressives?!??! Never! I'll bet $100 donation. nt"

I gave you an example of something that Obama will propose that also supports the progressive position.

Notice your word above ... "support". You did not say "pass".

I would mock your question about "what did the dems get" for being stupid.

But I will give you one item. My niece was diagnosed with cancer at 2. Only 10% of those with that cancer survive. She did. But because of it, my sister could not get full coverage for her after that. Th emost she could get was coverage for basic illness, and "injuries" (kid fell of a swing, etc).

My niece is now 15. And she has full coverage, thanks to HCR. And my sister can afford it. And my niece, who will probably have issues down the road because of the radiation treatments (fertility, etc) ... I know she, and many like her are now covered.

So look, hate Obama all you want. Don't focus on the GOP who tries to thwart him every day. Just blame him.

So you can try your reply again, the fact you would confuse me with another poster is understandable, hard to keep track. But again, I asked you very specific things, you aren't answering them.

And I'm really happy for your niece, glad to hear that. But your niece has nothing to do with anything I posted here.

31. Here.....
Start here:

Tax the Rich Petition
http://www.change.org/petitions/tax-the-rich

Then write a letter to your Representative and Senator and Majority Leader
telling them you Support Pres. Obama's upcoming proposal to tax the rich.

You can do that here: http://www.congress.org/communicate

You can also write to your local newspaper with a letter in where you support
tax increase for the rich.

Perhaps instead of fingerpointing ahead of time, you can be one of those whose
voice makes a difference....not against the President, but being actively supportive
of issues that are important to you....without bashing the President for your future
calculation of what he will do. Just saying that action of support work better than
words of cynism....always have, and always will.

24. I find this laughable when looking at some of your past posts.
In any case...it doesn't matter because people will rant and rave since Obama is a failure and just plain wrong. Basically---people use complaining over his policies as a mask for their dislike of the man himself. Those of us "so-called" cheerleaders have said that time and time again. Making those who know he'll do this or that to wait---instead reactionary response is normal.

More specifically, Ezra Klein's report today. I find it a little hard to believe he would support those kinds of draconian proposals.

Let's wait and see. His proposal comes out tomorrow. I'm anxious to hear it.

My question to you: why post here if you're so unhappy with the the state of DU?
