We are unprepared for the retirement of the baby boom generation. |
|
Obama gets it. I have renewed faith in him. I just hope he can give us some real solutions.
I feel a great relief hearing him now. This has really been weighing on me.

I would like to be hopeful, but the proof is in the pudding.

The SS surplus is the boomers paying for themselves. The rich don't want to give it back.

5. It's not about war on one group or another. |
|
It's about making the numbers work without taking too much from the next generation.
It has always seemed so unfair to me that the boomers and the xers paid less taxes and stuck our babies with the bill. That is just not right.

"...boomers and xers paid less taxes..."
Almost 30% of my income went to taxes. 30%
The richies paid far less in percentage. Don't point your finger at us, dude.
There is a war against the common people and your words quoted above are nothing more than throwing one of their 'bombs'. You really should just stop doing that.

4. America is not broke..... But if it want's to keeping starting wars, and |
|
transferring it's treasure to the richest in this country we will be, but let's not use the baby bombers as a bargaining chip to give the rich anymore... End the wars, and we will be just fine....O and if we want to help the baby boomers in retirement for God sake stop importing nurses from another country... Our nurses in America need these jobs...

6. You do realize that most of our future spending will go just to the boomers right? |
|
Believe me they are getting a good deal even if things get cut.
It's the kids that get the raw deal.

7. When I was working as a temp in the social services adult services |
|
department back in the 90s we were already talking about the need for elder care for the boomers. One thing that my state did was start screening people when they go into the nursing home. This was done so that nursing homes would no longer be retirement homes but intensive care homes. Home health and other community programs were then put into place to help seniors stay in their own or a relatives home. Now they are setting up an adult foster home system and group homes for seniors.
It was determined that if this kind of programing was not put into place the country would have had to build 200 nursing homes a week to accommodate the boomers.
In our state the system works well (I'm in it now instead of being the social worker) but it is my opinion that any government program is only as good as the elected officials that control it. This is why there is such a difference in states when it comes to schools, nursing homes and other government agencies.
