very good speech
now the trick is getting the rest of the party to back him up.
i go back and forth over this president.its kind of how i tell how they are doing.presidents i mean.my first president was ike.we didnt need a good looking president in those radio days, you could have a bullet skull and still be president.but i digress.in all my life i have more or less seen in action a policy where if you were president you were considered in charge of your party.i dont mean it was like you owned it but you did direct its members and they would allow themselves to be directed.like herding cats.i once herded 140,000 cats from west melbourne florida to kissimmee florida along highway 1-92.disney wanted them for something,so we rounded them up and headed west.it was rough droving in those days as we had no modern amenities such as water fountains or rest areas.by the time we made holopah we were down to 6500 cats as we lost many to gators and large mouth bass when crossing the st johns river.when we made what would become the disney main gate, walt disney himself was there with dick nixon and charro.they took the 17 remaining cats and paid us.im not sure what that has to do with the speech but i was reminded of this when someone was talking about ike a few minutes ago.

1. You made me laugh.

Yes, I remember Ike, too. I was actually born in the Truman days, 1946, but I barely remember Harry. From the radio. :)

But I agree with you on the president needing to be a leader of the party. That's been my big gripe with President Obama, too. He gives these great speeches and then just stands back and watches the fur fly.

3. carter lost the reins
clinton got them back but to little avail after the gop takeover
we as a party need to work on our public illusion of unity

2. Well, I'm waiting to see how "passionate" people truly are about
the issues....since that is what they have been saying
round here forever.

I see that they are plenty passionate about a personality...
as I witnessed since Sunday, when folks were looking into the broken crystal balls,
and were telling all of us exactly what the President was going to say.

Some swore that they wouldn't vote for a President
who would advocate for cutting Medicare Benefits. Today, the
same passionate souls from yesterday, are now into idle mode....
saying things like "Perdy speech" (although they want Bully pulpit yesterday,
and will now sit back and wait and see.

Personally, I ain't waiting for Republican feet deep up my ass!
I'm gonna be going to town halls running my big mouth, and
writing to my local papers and national publications.

I like this President, but I am looking forward to my medicare to be there
much, much more. Republicans aren't giving me such an option......
so that's that.

Edited on Thu Apr-14-11 01:08 AM by SwampG8r
how yall is?
i am critical of my party more than my president as he has had little help from a congress that SHOULD have been able to get everything he has asked for and didnt
maybe now that they have lost one house they will be able to unify a little bit

frenchy i have been in turtle mode lately here
some personal issues and some du issues
i come on and lurk and read while i am able
its good to see you in full spirits

edited to add:when i said i guage how well i think a president is doing by whether i go back and forth i meant the more i go back and forth the better they have done historically
no one will ever be 100% happy or sad about anyones job but their own but in general if you are aggravating me its because you are right(this rule applies only to spouses, directly related children and presidents)

5. So I tied an onion to my belt. Which was the style at the time.
Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees ...

8. The big question that has been in my mind for a while now....
WHEN are the republican people, not leaders, the PEOPLE...going to get that they are not among the richest people...they need or will need social security. Their lord and savior, Jesus said "what you do to the least of these you do to me". He also said we should sell everything we have and give it to the poor. I know that FOX and even the churches have skewed everything...but have their brains and hearts gone numb?????
