Pelosi Suggests Dems Won't Let Government Shutdown If Republicans Abandon Boehner

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi suggested Thursday that Democratic votes will push the spending compromise over the top -- even if Republicans defect in large numbers over a new report suggesting the bill will cut less than a billion dollars in government spending.

"I have always thought that if he (House Speaker John Boehner) didn't have enough votes -- if he didn't get 218 on his own -- that there would be Democrats who could help put it over the top," Pelosi said at a Capitol press conference. "It's just a question of how big that disparity is."

"I assume they have the votes," she added. "They seem pretty confident. You sound less confident than they do."

Boehner's been on a PR offensive all day, to stanch the bleeding after new CBO numbers suggest his compromise with the White House will only reduce direct payments by about one percent of the $38 billion in cuts he advertised.

Boehner has the majority, he and his people need to learn how to accept responsibility.

This is in support of the budget bill not about Boehner's. Boehner has his own problem. Because 352 million in cuts doesn't equal 100 billion that he needed to give to the tea party.

So the House has now officially passed the FY2011 funding bill to keep government open and prevent a federal shutdown. The final vote totals:

Republicans: 179 Yes, 59 No
Democrats: 81 Yes, 108 No
Total: 260 Yes, 167 No

As you can see, Republicans needed Democrats to get the bill passed. It takes 218 votes to pass legislation in the House, and the GOP delivered just 179 votes. Without at least 39 Democrats, it would not have passed. In the end 81 Democrats voted for it.

Last week, 28 Republicans voted against the CR. So between then and now Boehner lost another 28.
