I'm a happier Fred this morning.
As a DU'er who has been hated (yes, genuine hatred finds it's way to me faily often since 2008) for being disappointed with Obama and saying so - I would like to say that I am incrementally happier with our Prez this morning.

His recent speech went to new places - for him - not for any of us, of course. It's just traditional Democratic values. As ProSense has pointed out elsewhere, http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=433x652715 Obama smacks the top 1% for the first time. They are the exclusive beneficiaries of everything for the last 30 years and now it's time for them to "give back to the community" - as they are so fond of saying in PR blitzes. ProSense expresses relief that it 'finally" happened. I second that relief and stand with him/her to salute something new and welcome.

So. I invite those who hate me to relax and enjoy a day or 2 in which our Dem Party leaders have seen fit to bestow the unexpected Day-brightener of a truly Democratic speech from our Democratic president.

Remember, we are only divided here at DU because the Party leaders divide us.

1. What bothers me is that the situation with the 1% is systemic but we never even try
To address that. We try to remedy the situation with tax policy but that is just tinkering with the the results. If policies could result in better outcomes tax policy wouldn't be needed to do a bandaid fix which may not be fair.

The specific worker that did the labor should be boosted before the average joe on the street who had nothing to do with the generation of the revenue. We need to resolve fairness in the generation of revenue.

6. I've been speaking to many about just what you say.
The "systemic" nature of the problem.

But... I want to enjoy a "plus" moment for the rest of the day at least.

2. Actually, that wasn't written by me, but
I share the sentiment.

Thanks.

3. Sadly, I find this post silly. People hate you? I don't even remember if you ever posted.
And I practically live on GDP. People have actually sat there and told...from DU..."I hate you." ? You've got to be kidding me.

As for going to new places. You need to watch his speech for the rally on Feingold last summer. It's a similar speech. Most people on DU seem to ignore that. Actually most people didn't even see it. This isn't new for him...but I'm noticing this to be a meme by many on the left on DU.

It is not the first time he's smacked the 1%----that's a blatant lie.

"What "finally" happened?" Prosense is very supportive of the President. I salute the President for keeping to the same message he's been stating since he became President.

No, we are divided in DU because people on DU divide themselves. No makes any one separate from others. You choose to do it because you're an adult.

5. Oh my, yes.

I've been told that somone or other "hates" me in replies removed by the mods a little later.

I didn't post in GD - P very often.

I stand by what I said. I believe the root of the fights here at DU has stemmed from our Party's leaders - who find many of us to be "bad" Democrats.

Let's relax and enjoy today, vaberella - that speech had good news for all Democrats in it.

7. Credit where due seems like an important step, to me.
And, unfortunately, "hate" was the word.
