5. A direct response to the birther nonsense, I suspect, and
what conservative/rethug/bagger in their right mind listens to Springsteen?

Edited on Thu Apr-14-11 09:15 PM by cyberpj
Born down in a dead man's town
The first kick I took was when I hit the ground
You end up like a dog that's been beat too much
'Til you spend half your life just covering up

chorus
Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.

I got in a little hometown jam
And so they put a rifle in my hands
Sent me off to Vietnam
To go and kill the yellow man

chorus

Come back home to the refinery
Hiring man says "Son if it was up to me"
I go down to see the V.A. man
He said "Son don't you understand"

chorus

I had a buddy at Khe Sahn
Fighting off the Viet Cong
They're still there, he's all gone
He had a little girl in Saigon
I got a picture of him in her arms

Down in the shadow of the penitentiary
Out by the gas fires of the refinery
I'm ten years down the road
Nowhere to run, ain't got nowhere to go

I'm a long gone Daddy in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
I'm a cool rocking Daddy in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.

6. Unlike Raygun, I think Obama is well aware of the song's meaning
They had the song played as a reference to the birthers.

9. I'm sure it was played in honor of Donald Trump and had nothing to do with the lyrics - I thought it
was funny.

The rest of it...the unpleasant stuff...well, nobody listens to the words anyway, right?

13. this is the kind of music democrats should play
they should want to end the wars (vietnam in this song, afghanistan and iraq for us

they should want there to be jobs (hiring man said son, if it was up to me"

they should address that many of us feel lost in our birthcountry (got nowhere to run nowhere to go) i am lucky, i can leave the usa and live in europe, most people cannot

7. Not what I would use
This song doesn't exactly bespeak of fun fun fun surfin usa--more like U R screwed if you are born here with no $$$.

Irritates me that the "Born in the USA" lyrics are so mis-understood (or maybe not?)

10. And right over your head...
Not sure if you know, but there are people out there who think Pres. Obama was, in fact, not born in the USA. One is the leading candidate for the Republican nomination (Donald Trump). Me thinks this is a slam at those fools...

17. You should read the lyrics
Beyond the title line, the song refers mostly to the alienation of Vietnam vets as they returned to society. Since Obama doubled down on Bush's wars and started a third, using this song is unspeakably odd.

Born in the USA--Bruce Springsteen

Born down in a dead man town
The first kick I took was when I hit the ground
You end up like a dog that's been beat too much
Till you spend half your life just covering up

Born in the u.s.a., I was born in the u.s.a.
I was born in the u.s.a., born in the u.s.a.

Got in a little hometown jam
So they put a rifle in my hand
Sent me off to a foreign land
To go and kill the yellow man

Born in the U.S.A...

Come back home to the refinery
Hiring man said son if it was up to me
Went down to see my v.a. man
He said son, don't you understand

I had a brother at Khe Sahn
Fighting off the Viet Cong
They're still there, he's all gone

He had a woman he loved in Saigon
I got a picture of him in her arms now

Down in the shadow of the penitentiary
Out by the gas fires of the refinery
I'm ten years burning down the road
Nowhere to run aint got nowhere to go

Born in the u.s.a., I was born in the u.s.a.
Born in the u.s.a., I'm a long gone daddy in the u.s.a.
