Poll: One in four Americans think Obama was not born in U.S.
Posted by Stephanie Condon

A quarter of all Americans incorrectly think President Obama was not born in the United States, according to a new CBS News/ New York Times poll.

Among all Republicans, 45 percent believe he was born in another country, as do 45 percent of Tea Party supporters, the poll shows.

Since the start of Mr. Obama's 2008 presidential campaign, rumors have existed that he was born outside of the United States. The "birther" myth has steadily persisted through Mr. Obama's presidency, in spite of overwhelming evidence he was born in the United States -- including his 1961 birth announcement, printed in two Hawaii newspapers.

So when will our lovely corporate media start holding themselves accountable for this? This is an incredible indictment on them IMO. The fact that so many Americans are so uninformed proves that they aren't doing their fucking jobs. They're useless.

The whole world just points at America and laughs.

2. The gold standard of proof of where and when one was born
is a CERTIFIED COPY of one's officially recorded birth record. Obama has shown his to the entire world.

Birthers are too stupid to be allowed to vote.

3. Isn't it interesting that 25% keeps showing up...
It was always about Bush's floor. It was, at the start of Obama's presidency, the number of people who, without giving him a chance, disapproved of the job he was doing.

It's always the same 25%. Always.

20. An average of 25%, at any rate.
I've noticed that depending on what metric you look at, it tends to range from 19% to 33%.

4. That's about the right percentage of mouth-breathing idiots.
Although I'd put the percentage of really stupid repukes at a much higher level than 45%.

5. Was there ever a poll of how many Americans believed that Bush was AWOL?
Of course not! In fact, anyone who talked about it on television
ended up without a job (see Dan Rather).

Why is that?

6. I can't believe I am going to defend the MSM but...
That 25% country & the 45% of Republicans don't watch anything but FOX "News" & listen to talk radio...If they don't do either then they get their news from their church pastor, friends at church & others that do. I have seen the MSM really ask Republican "Bitrhers" direct questions lately only to see the Republican "Birthers" basically reverse course...Except of course Trump who is the "Birther in Cheif"!

Now, I will admit the MSM has paid little attention to the Birther movement until recently but I think that has more to do with most people thinking it was a non issue.

Obama has a passport and SS card which require a birth certificate. So birthers are claiming that our system is so irresponsible that you can acquire these things with a fake. So...if he could do this, anyone could. Couldn't the millions of illegals simply make a fake and wham bam...they are a natural born citizens??? Immigration problem solved! Do it yourself amnesty!

Trump and others are basically saying that any foreigner could come for a "vacation" visit a Kinkos and become a natural-born citizen, get their U.S. passport and SS care, no problem....and apparently they won't have to worry about getting caught breaking the law unless they become president and happen to be black!

11. You're missing the fact that his mother was a US citizen. Therefore, so is he.
It doesn't matter where he was born. Why does the press never mention this part of the story?

12. Hey...you're preaching to the choir!
Edited on Fri Apr-22-11 10:57 AM by RichGirl
True, he would be a citizen simply because his mothers was one. But, I am convinced that he is a natural born citizen, born in the USA!

My confusion is in people thinking it's possible and even easy to "become" a citizen by merely printing up a fake birth certificate. So the passport office does nothing to check out validation???? Even if they were lax, wouldn't the vedding to become US Senator and then President check this out as thoroughly as possible???? (Of course, they did!)

Why don't one of the birthers print up a fake and then try and use it to get a passport??? Why, because they don't want the truth. They want a white president...period...end of story!

16. A lot of the argument is about paperwork and fraud. What about Bush's Secret Service vetting?
I can't figure these guys out sometimes.... Obama as well as all other candidates are vetted big time before running. So the conspiracy reaches back to them as well? Funny.
