Stupid Republicans

No one could have predicted this:

Anxiety is rising among some Republicans over the party’s embrace of a plan to overhaul Medicare, with GOP lawmakers already starting to face tough questions on the issue at town hall meetings back in their districts.

House leaders have scheduled a Tuesday conference call in which members are expected in part to discuss strategies for defending the vote they took this month on a budget that would transform the popular entitlement program as part of a plan to cut trillions in federal spending.

One thing the average Republican lawmaker should have learned after eight years of being led around by idiots like George Bush and ideologues like Dick Cheney and bullies like Karl Rove and Tom DeLay, is that you should think for your goddamned self and not take anyone's word for anything.

If they tell you it will be okay to vote to kill Medicare, don't believe them, you idiots.

Medicare is necessary because old people get sick and require expensive drugs, treatments, and surgeries to sustain their lives and their quality of life. It doesn't make sense to insure old people, especially people who already require expensive care. Insurance is a profit-industry, and they aren't going to pay for people's health maintenance out of the goodness of their hearts. The amount of money it would require to make an insurance policy profitable for an eighty-year old cancer patient with diabetes would probably be in the seven figures. That's why we do something different. We have people pay into Medicare during their working lives so that they can spread the cost of old-age out and make it reasonable.

You can't give an eighty year-old cancer patient with diabetes a voucher (calling it “premium support”), think that it will pay for a seven-figure medical bill, and say that you've solved the budget problem.

When you vote for a system like that, the people will vote you out of office.

5. They ARE jumping on this:
This week, two Democratic groups launched radio ads and phone calls in the districts of more than 25 House Republicans. A GOP-leaning group, 60 Plus, responded with its own campaign of radio ads, direct mail and phone calls in most of the same districts.

In south Florida, for instance, House Majority PAC, a new group working to elect Democrats to the House, is targeting Republican Rep. Allen West with this radio spot: “West’s plan threatens to end Medicare as we know it. That’s right, end Medicare as we know it,” the announcer says. The group says it is spending more than $100,000 on ads in 10 districts. (House Majority PAC ads targeting other lawmakers are on YouTube.)

9. Voters were the real idiots
Trusting Republicans to act in the best interests of the middle class. I really gotta hand it to Republican politicians. At least they had brains enough not to campaign on the policies they're currently ramming through state legislatures, and attempting to do so on the national level. Had they been honest and owned up to their intentions, they would have never been elected. Where they went awry was thinking that, once in office they could get away with a radical agenda, and that voters would embrace their policies. Too bad, the toothpaste is already out of the tube. You guys OWN this crap!

- TRANSCRIPT -

ANNOUNCER:

Something unusual happened last week…in Washington, DC of all places.

Elected officials actually did what they said they would.

The House passed a budget that protects and preserves Medicare for years to come.

And our Congressman, Allen West, voted to protect Medicare and keep it secure for future retirees.

Our national debt is $14 trillion…America is literally spending money we don’t have and future generations won’t be able to afford.

With 10,000 Baby Boomers reaching retirement age every day, important programs like Medicare are being crushed – and could collapse if we don’t act to strengthen and improve them.

No changes for seniors on Medicare now or those who will soon go on it.

Control costs by targeting waste, fraud and abuse – so current and future seniors receive the quality care they have earned.

Call Allen West at (954) 202-6211. Thank him for voting to protect Medicare and tell him to continue keeping his promise to seniors.

Paid for by the 60 Plus Association.

http://60plus.org/seniors-thank-west-medicare-radio/

This is just a radio ad. They're also running TV ads claiming the same things. :eyes:

I say people SHOULD call Allen West-but not to thank him...

11. West is insane...
He's got it made, retired military, (should have faced a court-martial for his treatment of a prisoner). He's got VA benefits, retirement pay from not facing a court-martial, Congressional pay & benefits...but will set up the infamous Death Panels for seniors...he's an asshole, has always been an asshole and should be in Leavenworth.

12. It doesn't help that Politifact is attempting to run cover for the Repubs
by attempting to convince us that because Republicans are calling their plan "Medicare" that they're not really ending it regardless of the draconian changes they're making to it. Fortunately, it sounds like most people aren't buying that particular brand of logic if the town hall reactions are any indication. :eyes:
