FIRST LADY LAUNCHES JOINING FORCES INITIATIVE:

The White House has announced a new initiative called Joining Forces, aiming to “mobilize all sectors of society to give our service members and their families the opportunities and support they have earned.”

Operation Homefront, which has provided emergency financial and other assistance to military families since 2002, welcomes this initiative and will continue to work with the White House to support military families.

We were pleased that Mrs. Obama previewed a poignant example of what the Joining Forces initiative represents at our Military Child of the Year® Award ceremony last week. The Military Child of the Year® program is highlighted on JoiningForces.gov.

An important component of the Joining Forces initiative is the recognition all Americans owe a debt of gratitude to military families and that EVERYONE can do SOMETHING to help them.

The goal of the Joining Forces initiative is to spark action from citizens, communities, businesses, non-profits, faith based institutions, philanthropic organizations, and government to help military families. The focus is on three areas: Employment, Education, and Wellness.

Through its many programs to assist military families, Operation Homefront gives Americans an opportunity to participate in this initiative.

Among its programs, Operation Homefront provides financial and employment support services to wounded warriors and their families; partners to provide educational scholarships to military wives; and provides food and financial assistance, and morale programs, to promote physical and emotional wellness in military families.

Individual Americans, along with our corporate and non-profit partners, advance the goals of the Joining Forces initiative by volunteering with Operation Homefront and providing financial support.

Anyone wishing to support the Joining Forces initiative can learn how they can help military families by logging on to OperationHomefront.net/dcmetro.
