Buchanan, Trump, Birthers, .. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard Law you nimrods
Edited on Tue Apr-26-11 04:56 PM by Peacetrain
Just listening to Chris Matthews with Pat Buchanan on talking about the latest nutty rantings of Trump. Why will the President not release his school records.. ooooooooo..

He graduated MAGNA CUM LAUDE.. Do you know what that means.. that means he is one of the top grade getters, top 20% usually. You are graduating with "great" praise.. which is what it means literally in latin

I graduated magna cum laude from my college.. You had to have a 3.5 to even be considered.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barack_Obama

n late 1988, Obama entered Harvard Law School. He was selected as an editor of the Harvard Law Review at the end of his first year,<33> and president of the journal in his second year.<29><34> During his summers, he returned to Chicago, where he worked as a summer associate at the law firms of Sidley Austin in 1989 and Hopkins & Sutter in 1990.<35> After graduating with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) magna cum laude<36> from Harvard in 1991, he returned to Chicago.<33> Obama's election as the first black president of the Harvard Law Review gained national media attention<29><34> and led to a publishing contract and advance for a book about race relations,<37> which evolved into a personal memoir. The manuscript was published in mid-1995 as Dreams from My Father.<37>

1. For racists, every one of his achievements is more evidence of "affirmative action"
You can't win with those kinds of people.

19. What they don't know is that, in Law School, all exams are graded
anonymously. Each answer booklet has a number, no name, and grades are posted by number. A prof wanting to cut Obama a break would have to be able to recognize his handwriting in order to do so. The grades he got were his own. Period.

Sigh... you couldn't even make this stuff up could you? Do they even have the faintest idea what magna cum laude means? Evidently not.

Edited on Tue Apr-26-11 05:59 PM by jberryhill
But she did graduate with quite a reputation.

Nowadays, she's Summa Cum Laude, but other times not so much.

15. Guess it depends on the school...
"I graduated magna cum laude from my college.. You had to have a 3.5 to even be considered."

I graduated cum laude with a 3.6 GPA. Magna cum laude at my school was a 3.75 GPA. Regardless, you are right that no one graduates Magna cum laude without making excellent grades. Pulling it off at Harvard Law is impressive.

16. It's about his undergraduate grades, not his Harvard grades.
Trump and his ilk think that the President got into Harvard despite bad grades. They're trying to claim that he got in via Affirmative Action, rather than on his own merit. One would think that if he was able to graduate from Harvard magna cum laude, as well as becoming editor of the Harvard Law Review at the end of his first year, he would have likely had comparable grades as an undergrad.

18. If true, It actually proves that affirmative action WORKS
That a black man could rise from an oppressive environment and SUCCEED.

But of course, we know that Obama DIDN'T benefit from affirmative action of any kind.

He did it ALL on his own.

26. Grades and scores are used as predictors of success in law school
But they are not conclusive.

If someone gets into law school and does exceedingly well there, obviously the admissions committee accurately predicted their propensity for success.

17. I saw that segment...
incredible.

First thing I thought was, "I want to see Trump's and Buchanan's transcripts", I have no problem talking about mine, or if someone wants a copy, I'll print it out. I didn't see any offers from Trump or Buchanan, don't ask others to produce what you yourself will not willingly produce to verify one's own credentials.

It's all crap.

I would ask if Trump knows anything about Punahou, but... I mean that's just a stupid question because clearly he knows nothing about anything ouside his little circle of real estate and reality teevee.

I used to teach there. I graduated with a math degree from a very prestigious tech school, and I willingly admit that many of my calculus students were smarter than me (I taught geometry; subbed Calculus here and there for the inimitable Miki Bowers). This is not some cushy joint for rich kids to sit around, not study, and get an e-ticket to the Ivy Leagues. It has an incredibly rigorous curriculum, along with spiritual guidance, student service and volunteering requirements, demanding extracurriculars, blah blah blah. It's a school full of overachievers, many of whom end up at the most prestigious schools in the country. And it's even harder to be a transfer student and adjust to the rigors of this place without having had the same curriculum flow from kindergarten on.

So Trump is an idiot. No new news here, I guess."

21. Let's ask Donald Trump about my Daughter, shall we?
Edited on Wed Apr-27-11 12:15 AM by FrenchieCat
My daughter went to a similar High School in the Bay Area that Barack Obama attended in Hawaii.

Her school placed 7th in the nation as top High Schools in the WSJ survey done a few years ago.
I'm sure Barack Obama's High School is up there too!

She was a merit scholar as well as participating in the CTY program
(center of talented Youth) sponsored by John Hopkins University starting at age 12,
after her SAT results that she took while in the 6th grade had her scoring higher than
75 percent of graduating seniors in the nation that year. They requested that she take the SAT
after she scored in the top 1% on the aptitude tests in the nation.

She's also 100% bilingual French & English....as she went to a bilingual elementary
and middle school.

She placed 5 out of 5 on each of her advanced placement tests; the 5 that she took.

She went on to choose Harvard (and believe me, she had her pick)...but not only her,
but 7 of her classmates that year from that same High School ...which is typical
...and then the same is true of at least 5 to 10 students choosing Yale, and 5 or 10 students choosing Princeton, etc...

in fact, that High school places about 47% of its students annually in the Top 10 Ivy League schools,
which of course, doesn't include lower tier schools like UC Berkeley, UCLA, etc...which is where the other students typically go. It is what some call a "feeder" school...which I believe Obama's High School is as well.

She'll have her PHD before the age of 26, as she just received her Masters earlier this year, and she's 23 years old.

Oh yeah....and she's Black.

Was it affirmative action at play or is it possible that she simply earned her place?

Let's ask Mr. Trump...since he knows so much about every fucking thing!
