ABC/WaPo poll, Obama beats GOP's best bet, Romney, 49-45 - bests Trump 52-39

Mitt Romney, who is far from being the GOP frontrunner, trails Pres. Obama 49-45 in a ABC/Washington Post poll.

Romney does the best against Obama, though still manages to lose by four percentage points in the hypothetical 2012 matchup.

Against Sarah Palin, the President leads decisively, 56-37. He holds an equally impressive 54-39 lead against Newt Gingrich. Mike Huckabee scores the second best margin against Pres. Obama - though still loses 50-44.

Tim Pawlenty, the former Minnesota governor, trails 52-39, a result similar to Minnesota congresswoman Michele Bachmann, who loses 52-38.

Donald Trump, the potential frontrunner of the Republican field, loses badly 52-38 in the general election poll.

against the likes of Trump or Bachmann.

Considering he beats almost every Republican candidate by double-digits, he's in a good spot.
