Woodward: Trump is like McCarthy
By: Jennifer Epstein
April 28, 2011 08:37 AM EDT

Donald Trump’s weeks of hounding President Barack Obama has put the developer in league with one of the more reviled figures of American political history, journalist Bob Woodward said Thursday.

“Trump, I think, was or may be still is aspiring to be the new Joe McCarthy,” the author and Washington Post editor said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” recalling Congress’ pursuit of suspected communists in the 1950s.

“Trump is going to get the new name ‘Tail-Gunner,’” Woodward said, referring to the nickname that McCarthy had gotten during World War II and used while in Congress.

But Trump is not the only one to blame for intensifying the “birther” talk to the point of prompting the president to release his birth certificate and take to the White House press room himself Wednesday in an attempt to end the controversy, Woodward said.

Rather, “I fault our business to a certain extent magnifying this,” he said, referring to the media.

3. You can always count on ol' Watergate Bob to carry the CIA's water.
Word is out from TPTB to kill the birther monster before it finishes making a laughingstock of the Republicans.

This one is gonna take both the stake AND the silver bullets.

6. Woodward complaining about Trump's hypocrisy
is like Mussolini calling Franco anti-democratic. Only in America could Woodward get on TV without a disclaimer.

4. Truer analogy than you think.
One of the most influential mentors of Donald Trump when he was starting out on his own was Roy Cohn, the first lieutenant of Joe McCarthy. He likely shared his bag of tricks with Trump during that time.

5. I love how Mika and Joe blamed OBAMA for "making a big deal about it." When Joe

said something like, "When the President stops talking about it, WE'LL stop talking about it." And Mika took a second away from fawning over her boyfriend Joe to say something similar, interrupting Woodward by saying something like, "Excuse me, but Obama had a PRESS CONFERENCE about it!" :eyes:

7. I wanted to slap Joey Scar this morning when I heard that.
The media's all butthurt because the President basically told them they weren't doing their jobs.
