What "proof" would be good enough for the doubters? A photo? The argument would be (a) that it doesn't "look like him" and/or (b) it was photoshopped and/or (c) it was taken years ago. A complete forensic report? It would be dismissed as fake, since it came from the same government that claimed to have killed OBL. A third party review of the evidence? Dismissed because, after all, any evidence provided to the third party would originate with the government.

We've seen from the birthers exactly how these things play out. The deathers will be no different.

Me, I've seen enough lies to last generations.

I really don't care whether OBL died yesterday or almost 10 years ago as the reports stated at the time, or somewhere in-between. I try not to concern myself with stuff that is unknowable.

Instead, what is known for a fact is that after ten years the US government has finally decided to stop playing the OBL bogeyman card. Of coutse that card has been played to death, there wasn't much mileage they could get out of it. I fact, they did squeeze one last drop by raising the threat level on the news of OBL's death, but beyond that, OBL has become irrelevant, whether dead or alive.

Mental exercise: Now that he's dead, can we refuse to take our shoes off before boarding a plane, and can we hold on to the toothpaste and shampoo? Can we refuse strip searches and the x-ray scans?

I didn't think so.

If one believes OBL was the evil mastermind of 9-11, the most dangerous man alive etc etc., and that he was killed by US special forces some time within the last two days - then one should still ask why this was the last thing that was done after 9-11, instead of the first.

If one does not believe all of that, or has serious doubts one way or another, then it really doesn't matter. What matters is that we are witnessing a minor change in the rulers' policy of fear management that has served them so well for a decade. Exit the ghost. That's what I know. For everything else there is no evidence other than words of those who have always lied to me.
