Attorney: "Manning no longer ... subjected to harsh pretrial confinement conditions."
PFC Manning was transferred to the Joint Regional Corrections Facility (JRCF) at Fort Leavenworth on April 20, 2011. I was able to tour the facility and meet with PFC Manning last week. PFC Manning is now being held in Medium Custody. He is no longer under Prevention of Injury watch and is no longer subjected to harsh pretrial confinement conditions.

Unlike at Quantico, PFC Manning cell has a large window that provides adequate natural light. His cell also has a desk, a bed, and a toilet. The cell is approximately 80 square feet. He is provided with a normal mattress, sheets and a pillow. None of his clothing is taken away from him at night. PFC Manning is able to have all of his personal items in his cell, which include his clothing, his legal materials, books and letters from family and friends. He is also able to have a pen and paper at all times in his cell, and is able to write whenever he chooses.

PFC Manning is housed in a special area of the confinement facility, along with other pre-trial detainees. Each pre-trial area (including PFC Manning’s) has four cells, and each pre-trial detainee is assigned to his own cell. The cells are connected to a shared common area, with a table, a treadmill, a television and a shower area. Click here in order to see photos of the JRCF area.

3. So. What was the rationale for *denying* him all of these things?

4. Pre-trial torture to demoralize and break him, because, you know, he's GUILTY.

5. Because he was on suicide watch, because he threatened
suicide. He may have just been "joking", but you don't joke about bombs in an airport and you don't joke about suicide in a prison.

9. That happens to be false. He was moved to this facility BEFORE the "embarassment"
Edited on Wed May-04-11 06:58 AM by vaberella
you speak of.

So in regards to seriousness. Then you need to get the timeline correct. Manning was moved 2-3 days before Obama's fundraising. So not after to having responded to any form of "embarassment" you claim he felt.

Manning moved post: http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2011/04/manning-move/

As far as suicide watch go...it's not long lasting. Suicide watch, is just a watch. Until they go through strict psychiatric therapy and for a period of time. Further more, he was on suicide watch for 2 days and no more.

So he was not under suicide watch (or punitive watch as some have claimed) for very long.

Not to mention he was allowed to watch television and able to walk outside of his cell when he was at Leavenworth. It wasn't the best conditions but it wasn't as though he was stuck without even being allowed outside of his cell.

11. My postcard to Manning was not delivered & he had to sign off to that
I sent a postcard to Manning at Quantico and to him c/o Courage to Resist. I got a response from Quantico saying I wasn't on his 'friend' list (I dont' have the letter in front of me) and Manning had had to sign a form to that effect. I was glad Manning knew someone (hopefully many of us 'someones') had tried to send him a message of support.

All that sounds good, but is HE doing ok, do you think? ...considering the circumstances. I pray for strength for this young man.

16. Great. What's next? Give him his own wing at White House? Will that be enough?
Perhaps this president should be made to bring him breakfast in bed, feed him grapes? :eyes: All this shit, was much ado about nothing, and a smart trial lawyer who obviously had connections to Hollywood. I hope they try his ass soon, so he can write his book, and take his show on the road, or go into hibernation so I never have to hear his name again.
