MSNBC Breaking: Al Qaeda confirms Osama bin Laden's dead. More from Reuters.
Edited on Fri May-06-11 07:54 AM by flpoljunkie
LONDON | Fri May 6, 2011 8:45am EDT

(Reuters) - Al Qaeda vowed to continue its attacks on the West and said Osama bin Laden's death would be a curse "that chases the Americans and their agents," according to the SITE online monitoring service.

In a statement published online, the militant network also urged Pakistanis to rise up against their government to "cleanse" the country of what it called the shame brought on the nation by bin Laden's death on Pakistani soil, SITE reported.

9. We are about to enter the 21st high tech version of the Hatfield & the McCoys.
The only thing that will make a change is if it's true that middle-easterns are fed up with the terror too, and want change through democratic measures, instead of gore.

10. Agree, but it looks like Al Quaeda is still popular in Afganistan + Pakistan
probably they get less news about the Arab spring there.

18. Some bad guys seem to have a flair for colorful language

I got a kick out of Saddam Hussein's pre-Desert Storm commentary on how US troops would be swimming in an ocean of blood, and so on.

Ahmedinejad comes up with a few rhetorical gems once in a while.

Yes, they are assholes, but they do seem to have a poetic bent.

12. Gee, those guys seem a tad miffed over OBL getting 'retired'.
One would think that an opening at the top would create opportunities for advancement within their organization for an ambitious up-and-comer in the mass murdering field of terrorist endeavor.

Step up boys, and take a swing at the Big Time!

Just remember on thing...there is no place on this planet you can hide where you won't be found.

16. I wonder if Al Qaeda pays the moving expenses for their higher-ups?
Cause if they do, they have a big bill coming as anyone who is anyone within that organization has been packing up furiously and leaving their current digs ASAP.

14. Except you can't trust anything that comes from SITE
They're part of the scary-Muslims-are-hiding-under-your-bed network and have a long track record of "finding" al Qaeda videos that may or may not be authentic. Here's an earlier example of their work.

September 7 and 11, 2007: US Analysts Obtain New Bin Laden Tapes Before Al-Qaeda Releases Them
Edit event

US analysts obtain two new videos of a man thought to be Osama bin Laden (see September 7, 2007 and September 11, 2007) before al-Qaeda makes them available on the internet. A video released on September 7 is obtained by the US-based SITE Institute, which provides it “to government agencies and news organizations at a time when many well-known jihadist Web sites had been shut down in a powerful cyberattack by unknown hackers.” The next tape is obtained by a web designer known as “Laura Mansfield,” who manages “to scoop al-Qaeda by publicly unveiling its new video, a feat she has accomplished numerous times since 2002.” Although SITE’s founder Rita Katz declines to comment on how it obtained the video, the Washington Post says that SITE, Mansfield, and others like them obtained the videos, whose release was publicly announced in advance, “using a combination of computer tricks, personal connections and ingenuity to find and download password-protected content.”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Osama_bin_Laden_video

In the video Bin Laden is seated at a table wearing a white robe, turban, and beige cloak. His beard is shorter than in his 2004 video, and is black, leading some to speculate it had been dyed, and others to suggest the Bin Laden in the video is an impersonator. The video's title, The Solution, appears in the top left corner of the video frame. The video running time is approximately 26 minutes. . . .

Several peculiarities in the video raise questions regarding its authenticity:

Osama bin Laden sports the trimmer, blacker beard and the same clothing he wore in the October 2004 video.

The video freezes at about 1 minute and 58 seconds, and motion only resumes again at 12:30.

The video then freezes again at 14:02, and remains frozen until the end.

All references to current events, such as the 62nd anniversary of the US atomic bombing of Japan, and Sarkozy and Brown being the leaders of France and the UK, respectively, occur when the video is frozen.

The words spoken when the video is in motion contain no references to contemporary events and could have been made before the US invasion of Iraq.
