Politico: Jon Huntsman to be keynote speaker at College Republican Convention
Jon Huntsman to College Republican convention

By ALEXANDER BURNS
6/6/11 5:42 AM EDT Updated: 6/6/11 9:33 AM EDT

In today's Morning Score:

Former Ambassador Jon Huntsman will be the keynote speaker at the College Republican National Committee's 2011 convention, addressing a July 29 banquet at the Renaissance Marriott in Washington. The audience will include some 500-700 young GOP activists, mostly current college students, and CRNC spokesman Rob Lockwood described it as a key opportunity to win over GOP youth: “Our speakers have an unparalleled opportunity to connect with young leaders, all of whom are eager to get involved in the 2012 process.” Huntsman has shown interest in courting young voters before, starting his rollout with a pair of commencement speeches in New Hampshire and South Carolina that highlighted his youthful adventures playing in a band. He picked up a youth endorsement over the weekend from the leaders of the group formerly known as Students for Daniels. Other confirmed CRNC attendees include Michigan Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, Mississippi Sen. Roger Wicker, Arizona Rep. Ben Quayle and former RNC Chairman Ed Gillespie.

If Huntsman sticks with the two-week timetable he floated last week, he'll be an announced candidate — or not — by this time. NOTE: An earlier version of Score said the event was June 29; a source incorrectly described plans for the convention.

1. I wish Huntsman would actually have some balls
And stand up for what he really believes in instead of pandering to the wackos in the party.

2. Not happening. Looks like he's falling right in line to pander to the GOP evangelical base.
Forty-four per cent of the GOP primary voters are evangelicals.
