NBC/WSJ Poll: Obama leads Romney by six, leads by 9-18 points in 3 regions, behind in south
Nonetheless, 45% said they would probably vote to re-elect President Obama, while 40% said they would choose a Republican. Against specific GOP contenders, the president's lead widened with Obama beating Romney, 49% to 43%.

First Read: "But when you look at the Obama-vs.-Romney split by region, you see Obama's lead over Romney is even stronger when thinking about the Electoral College. Obama is at 50% or higher against Romney in the Northeast (54%-36%), Midwest (50%-41%), and West (55%-40%). The one place that's bolstering Romney's numbers is in the South, where the Republican leads by a 49%-43% margin. Similarly, Obama's overall job-approval is above 50% everywhere outside the South."

1. Great news....
Attack the GOP in the south to force them to battle where they shouldn't have to battle...

2. Pretty much expected from the South. Obama is in pretty good shape otherwise and hopefully things
won't change too much closer to the election.

3. Of course Obama is behind in the region dominated by Dixiecrats.

This is hardly surprising.

And actually being down by six points in the whole South is not bad for Obama. It probably means he is very competitive in Florida, Virginia and North Carolina.

4. If by "South" they mean the former Confederate States
(Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia)
...which is usually the case, then Obama can win without the South. As it is, he's poised to pick up two or three of those, and will be competitive in at least two or three others.

5. In most of the southern states,
Obama probably trails Rick Perry or Michelle Bachman or <insert name of any other complete right-wing lunatic> by a 60-40 margin....whereas the right-wing lunatic candidates will do poorly in the rest of the country. I hope the Republicans choke on their Southern Strategy this time around.

7. Obama
He's competive In Florida,North Carolna, and Virginia. Those should be only Southern states he should campagin In.There Is chance to get 45 percent of the vote In South Carolana and possibly get close In Georgia but he won't win eather. He's better off coming to
Missouri than any Southern states he lost In 2008,and Missouri Isn't easy.Although polling has suggest against Romney It could be
similar to 2008 here.

Obama could lose the entire South and win by keeping his Northeast,Midwest(Although he will probally lose Indiana though) and West
states. The real thing to take away Is his 55 to 40 lead In The West. The battleground Is trully the west and Midwest.South Is republican like northeast Is Democratic.

8. Are we going to hear about these polls every day until November 2012? Kill me now!
Yeah, it's good news, but national polls NOW are all but meaningless (except for showing that Palin and Gingrich are toast, which we already knew).

9. The elcctoral college favors Obama.. there are several solid big blue states..
that will get Obama close.. then he just needs to win a few battlegrounds and its over. The road to victory for the Rethug is much more difficult.

12. I watched NBC news and MSNBC for most of the day
Edited on Thu Jun-16-11 09:19 PM by aaaaaa5a

Why was this not reported? Why is the incredibly tiny audience that follows NBC twitter feeds and participates in message board forums the only people who know about this?

Wasn't this a big enough fact to be worth at least a casual mention on oh… I don't know… lets say Morning Joe or The Nightly News with Brian Williams?

Good thread topic. Good OP. Very informative.
