Do you remember this....
“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America ’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government can not pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America ’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here.' . . . Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.”

-- Senator Barack H. Obama, March 2006

And today, he embodies that leadership failure he described. I couldn't stand Hillary (finger in the wind on IWR and general war hawk) but she was right about BHO: he was and is all talk!

Contrary to the OP, I don't get e-mails like this.

It all depends on the company you keep.

It was called playing politics and other Dems played it, too.

"I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America’s debt limit.”

He did. It passed narrowly – by a vote of 52-48

13. For some context, a later comment from Obama on differences between a Senator's / President's stands
Especially on this issue, fwiw -

"I think that it's important to understand the vantage point of a senator versus the vantage point of a president. When you're a senator, traditionally what's happened is, this is always a lousy vote. Nobody likes to be tagged as having increased the debt limit - for the United States by a trillion dollars. As president, you start realizing, you know what, we, we can't play around with this stuff. This is the full faith and credit of the United States. And so that was just an example of a new senator making what is a political vote as opposed to doing what was important for the country. And I'm the first one to acknowledge it."

23. Well it's the same as being a candidate for President and the actual President.
Who believes what you say on the campaign trail?

Just like being a state senator opposing the IWR...it's so much easier to do that when you have no skin in the game.

THIS. THIS is why so many people tune out to politics.

15. Pres. Obama wanted the debt ceiling raised in conjunction with movement to lower the deficit.
As a Senator, he opposed raising the debt ceiling while he was serving under a President that had no interest in getting the deficit under control and was responsible for it in the first place.

As a President, he wanted the debt ceiling raised while illustrating that has quite a bit of interest in getting the deficit, a deficit he did not create, under control.

Whether you agree with the President's stances and compromises during this debt fight, the fact is, there is absolutely no inconsistency between his views on the debt ceiling and the national debt as a Senator from that as President.

16. Fail...
We're still dealing with the same reckless fiscal policies that Obama was talking about in 2006. The ones he's been trying to fix since he became President. I expect crap like this to come from a right wing site, completely ignoring what brought us to this point. Sadly, this likely came from such a site.
