Gallup: "Obama bests an unnamed Republican presidential candidate by 48%-45%"

Breaking Poll: Dems Poised to take back the House

joelgp

Just a quick diary to post this breaking USA/Gallup poll which shows that if the elections were held today, Obama would beat the generic republican by three points which is a much better position than he was just two weeks ago when he was upside down 39/47.

Today they found found:

“In another question, Obama bests an unnamed Republican presidential candidate by 48%-45%, though he remains below the 50% threshold.”

Regarding the house they found:

“The 2012 election is 15 months away, which is plenty of time for the political landscape to shift. About this time before the 1994 election, when Democrats lost control of the House and Senate, dismay with Congress already was set. But a year before the 2006 election, when Democrats regained control of both houses, incumbents still had somewhat higher support.

If congressional elections were held today, Americans by 49%-45% say they would vote for the Democratic candidate over the Republican.”

I believe that all of this debt talk and crashing of the stock market has shown Americans the true colors of this GOP new crew.

more

Now even unnamed Republican is falling behind. Seems like people are beginning to be turned off by assholery in general.

2. +3 is not a great place for an incumbent, but given the economy it's pretty good
We takes what we can gets.

7. Oh, but it's "generic Republican"
the same "generic Republican" who was used to create the impression that an unnamed Republican could emerge and do well.

Still, other polls, like this recent one in Florida, shows the President besting the actual Republican candidates.

The other good thing about the Gallup poll, is the President's approval is improving in key states.

9. The problem the GOP has is that there is no "generic Republican"
running for president in 2012.

10. That Poll Is A Little Counterintuitive But Maybe The Voters Will Get It Right
I would ask a simple question.

Who do you think is responsible for the current economic problem

Democrats
Republicans

Glad to hear that "generic Republican" is underwater now (not that polling this makes much difference either way).

16. As soon as I saw this I clicked on it just to un-un-rec someone.
It turns out I was right because the number had gone down to 4 by the time I got here - after it was on the front page.

18. Unnamed Republican is doing quite well for himself.
Edited on Mon Aug-08-11 05:14 PM by jeff47
A year ago, Unnamed Republican lost by more than 10 points. He's closed that to within the margin of error. Not a bad accomplishment for a fictional construct.

'Course it's not good for this 'Obama' guy. The only silver lining is no current Republican candidate comes close to being "Unnamed Republican".

21. Perhaps the pendulum is swinging back.
True, Unnamed Republican lost by more than 10 points a year ago, and then more than closed the gap by polling ahead by 12 points just last week.

In that week's time "he's" gone back to losing by three points... it looks like a reversal of fortunes to me.

Here's hoping that the momentum keeps going in this direction!

20. Assuming their sampling is careful and clean...
...that means tens of millions of Americans are wrong!

They don't realize that the congressional Democrats are as bad, if not worse, than the Republicans.
They don't realize that at this point you might as well put a Republican in the White House for all the good it will do.

We need to reach out to all these wrong people, and gently dissuade them of their wrongitude!

22. If the Democrats would learn from Harry Truman and
go on the offensive and attack without mercy, the reactionary policies of the GOP, they will win next year.
