The GOP set out on a course to destroy, but what are they achieving?
Edited on Mon Aug-08-11 11:01 PM by ProSense
The GOP set out on a course to repeal the President's first two years and destroy the economy to assign blame

They've done a good job at obstructing and being assholes, but what have they accomplished?

Under Boehner, the House majority has a thin record of callous legislation that died in the Senate.

Proposed
(in alphabetical order)
Cut, Cap and Balance Act, H.R. 2560
No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, H.R. 3
Protect Life Act, H.R. 358
Repealing the Job-Killing Health Care Law Act, H.R. 2
FY 2011 Further Continuing Appropriations (through March 18), H.J.Res. 44

Boehner's disapproval rating has climb 16 points since April.

The teabaggers are unpopular.

The Republicans are operating on bluster and expecting no one to pay attention to the fact that they're failing miserably.

Edited for clarity.

1. It is going to bite them
http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/2011-08-08-poll-gallup-election_n.htm

Poll: Will anti-Congress mood cause another 'wave' election?

snip - Only 24% of those surveyed say most members of Congress deserve re-election, the lowest percentage since Gallup began asking the question in 1991. Fifty-six percent say their own representative deserves another term, similar to the levels just before tumultuous elections in 1994, 2006 and 2010 that changed control of the House or Senate.

4. They want to destroy the Federal government's ability to borrow money
That was why the Tea Party did not want to support any budget compromise. They had nothing to gain by doing so.

They supported draconian cuts and a Balanced Budget Amendment that would shrink government 40-50%. They knew it wouldn't pass. The alternatives were deep cuts and a downgrade (which they got) or default (which they'd have prefered).

Default would have forced a de-facto balanced budget. This would have shrunken government by 40-50%, which is what they want.

What they get now is a government that may (or may not) be hamstrung in the capital markets.

My recommendation would be to repal the Bush tax cuts, and print money to make up the difference. Run "balanced budgets" and pay the foreign creditors back in inflated dolars. Meanwhile, as the dollar weakens, our exports and manufacturing become more attractive.
