In all this talk about the economy, why is no one talking about unemployment?
Edited on Tue Aug-09-11 10:48 AM by Dulcinea
Until & unless something is done about 10% unemployment, our economy will never get back on its feet. And there's no will on the part of private industry or government to do anything about it. We have a consumer-based economy that's not working because when people have no jobs, they have no money. When they have no money, they're not buying. That doesn't take a Ph. D. in economics!

1. Unemployment is only part of it
Many of the people who are still employed in the middle class are working harder and working longer hours but making less money for their efforts than they did a long time ago.

4. Absolutely
It's a real sad state we're in no matter which angle you view it from unless, that is, you're one of the wealthiest people in the country.

8. What's even funnier is all the news stories about how nobody is talking about the unemployed
even in the MSM I've seen those. Reporters will write and file stories about the lack of discussion about unemployment, but will not... you know... report on unemployment. Or editors won't print it. One of the two.

9. I'll tell you why.
Because no one cares about the 90% of the people in this country.

The people in our government are controlled by the wealthiest 10% of Americans. Those 10% have got the government doing THEIR bidding.

For example, instead of helping homeowners, they help mortgage holders.

The name of the game is how to protect the financial interests of the wealthy.

Government services for average Americans are meaningless. Likewise are jobs.

11. Not Helping Homeowners?
Last I checked, there were 5-10 active programs to help homeowners with their mortgages. I think it's possible that the word has not gotten out widely enough, and I hear that those who have not yet gotten behind could also use a break.

But to say that no one is trying to help homeowners seems a bit generalized.
