President Obama arrives at Dover Air Force Base on Tuesday, where he met privately with families of the 30 Americans that died in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan.President Obama traveled to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware on Tuesday to pay his respects to the 30 American servicemen killed in a helicopter crash in eastern Afghanistan over the weekend.

Four helicopters took the president and a coterie of military and administration officials for the 45-minute unannounced trip from Fort McNair in Washington to Dover, where the remains of the Americans, including the 22 Navy Seal commandos killed in Saturday’s attack, were being transported.

Because of the nature of the crash of the Chinook helicopter, the remains of the dead were returned to Dover “unidentified” until they can be positively identified by the Armed Forces Mortuary Affairs Office. Also in Dover for the return of the remains were Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta, Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Ray Mabus, the secretary of the Navy.

Speaking to reporters at the White House on Monday, Mr. Obama vowed that American troops would “continue the hard work of transitioning to a stronger Afghan government and ensuring that Afghanistan is not a safe haven for terrorists.”

8. You remind me of a Republican President.....
You remember Mr. Bush, standing on the remains of those who died at the WTC? With his bullhorn, standing on the dead to make a political point?

Yeah...that's what you remind me of.

4. Unlike GWB, he has the character to SHOW UP and PRESIDE
over these losses.

So carp all you want, I'm giving credit to this POTUS for doing part of his damned job.

One wonders if they behave with the same utter lack of class and decency when they step away from their keyboards.

9. where are the pictures of flag draped coffins?
Obama fought to overturn the ban... where are the pics? Maybe he's not so keen to have those photos floating around now that they're dying under HIS command.

10. WTF sense does that even make?
He overturns the ban so he can then "hide" the photos?

:wtf:

It has to be with the families' consent, for one thing. You going to ask them?

12. How come he didn't advertise this before he went? Oh, that's
right, he doesn't have to announce when he does the right thing.

Thank you, Mr. President, for representing us in our collective sorrow.
