Joe Madison: The Democrats can spin this anyway they want they still lost
He was speaking this morning on the Wisconsin election he predicted the rethugs will be emboldened by this election because the democrats came up short.Quote(Madison) I always use my football analogy a win is a win and the republicans still control the Wisconsin Senate the Progressives have got to regroup and find a way to counter all this outside money in these elections in 2012.

2. He's right.
Who the fuck invested this much time, energy, money, effort, and emotion, to celebrate just winning 2 seats out of 6???

For some the goal was just to beat a repub, even if it doesn't change the course of legislation. For others, we wanted to stop and maybe even change the legislation that was being passed. It wasn't about cheering for a sports team for us.

4. True, the BIG goal was to flip three and take control, but it was REPUKES who LOST seats, NOT Dems.
Remember the money disadvantage, how tough it is to unseat incumbents, and that these state senate seats went RePuke even when Obama won there in 08. This was not the huge victory Dems wanted, but it was an ADVANCE. The tide hasn't completely turned, but it is IS turning.

7. It just doesn't work that way...
All the happy talk is just spin. We lost. It wasn't a complete wipe out, but it was a bad night.

They baggers lost a seat that is clearly trending Democratic and lost another by only 2 points with a horribly flawed candidate who cheated on his wife (even his wife supported his recall). In reality, we won 1 contested seat - and just barely.

Each election is different. Each has it's own energy, organization, emotion and investment. It just isn't accurate to say, "well, we got 2 now and that means we will win more later". It just doesn't work that way.

Lets put it this way, if all of our organizations on the ground and all the labor union support we had knew ahead of time that this would be the result, they'd never have wasted the time and energy.

What this does do is remind us how ferocious our enemy is. It shows us that despite all this polling supposedly showing everyone hates the Tea Party and Republicans, the truth is they remain a powerful foe with a lot of support and tons of cash.

9. Yeah ...
The one thing I would note is that these were pretty much R heavy districts, so with max turnout on both ends, it was a set up to expect a BIG night.

But, if feels a bit hollow to fall one seat short of flipping the chamber.

Agreed though, this highlights the strength of the enemy, and frankly, the need to rally behind our president, despite our disappointments with him at times.

8. No matter how people want to spin it, he is right
All the shouting about how the left was all fired up, and yet the end result is still republicans in control of both houses. One can't stop fighting, but it is stupid to think that this will stop them from continuing to run roughshod over people's rights.
