When Obama's Poll Numbers Go Up, Its An Aberration, But When Its Low... |
|
...its a new normal. When President Obama's approval peaked following the death of Osama bin Ladin, the corporate media dismissed it as an abberation due to one time event. Of course, President Obama's low poll numbers this week coincide with the S & P downgrade and the subsequent market tumble, but this really is dismissed as an aberration. Instead, the tenor of the stories is that this is the new normal.
Gotta love that corporate media narrative!

6. well that's consistent with the two President Bushes. |
|
When Bush, Sr. won the first Gulf War, his approval shot up to 91%, a one-time rally-around-the-flag event, just as the death of bin Laden was a one-time rally-around-the-flag event. Likewise when Bush Jr gave the little 9\11 speech at the site of the WTC, this one-time rally-around-the-flag event shot his approval rating up. In the case of Bush Sr., when the 1991-92 recession hit, his approval numbers fell low; Shrub Bush's approval numbers fell after the mortgage crisis in the economy, and Obama's numbers fell after the bad economy.
Approval numbers always temporarily jump for a rally-around-the-flag event, but if the economy stays bad, there is indeed a new normal low approval for the incumbent president.
So the "corporate media" got it right.

his numbers have always been low, it is true that he had a significant approval after the bin laden death, are you trying to say this is false. Usually when there is a significant approval or significant disapproval for a short amount of time, you can usually attribute it towards a certain event. Other than that you look at the overall average. http://www.gallup.com/poll/113980/Gallup-Daily-Obama-Job-Approval.aspx
