I wonder what percentage of Americans approved of Hoover's handling of the economy?

I've never seen such insanity by Democrats.

1. Perhaps they are the sane ones?
Who's idea was it to crap on your base while at the same time trying to woo folks who wouldn't vote for you if you were the last person on earth?

I've never seen a president try to irritate his most important backers by telling them they need to sacrifice. Bush,Clinton, et al never did that.

2. Here's the chart
Gallup

<...>

<...>

Democrats Alone Back Obama's Performance on the Issues

Obama earns scant support on the issues among Republicans, and does not do much better among independents. In contrast to Democrats' majority approval of Obama on all seven issues tested, fewer than half of independents approve of the president's handling of any of these.

<...>

Yeah, the President's approval on the economy took a hit in recent weeks, but the Republicans sure are lining up on one side.

Still, notice that the President's approval on the economy has been hovering in the 35 percent to 39 percent range for about a year.

Now that the debt ceiling fight is over, his ratings will likely rebound.

4. Jobs should be the emphasis not tax holidays, or tax cuts
The Obama administration has tried it the Republican way and it is not working. Can they at least try some ideas from Democratic core principles?

7. There is only so much a president can do about the economy...
it is the responsibility of congress, the fed and other entities, particularly private industry, that has far more impact than anything a president can do.

It's easy to "blame" a president...but the bottom line is, if the negative economic forces overwhelm the populace, there is little a president can do.

The "good girl" whose heart he is breaking is the progressive wing of the party, and he is indeed free falling:
