This President is pure magic on remote!
Wasn't he at some comedy roast when the takedown of OBL began? And now he's vacationing on the Vineyard as the dictator is being ousted in Lybia. This must be driving the Republicans mad!

1. The key is playing only 9 holes of golf.
The Sunday Bin Laden went down, POTUS played golf but went back to the office after finishing only 9 holes - EXTREMELY odd for him. He also went straight into the Oval Office while still in his golf shoes, etc. which he never does.

Yesterday, he played 9 holes of golf and then stopped.

If President Obama stops a golf match at 9 holes, usually some bad dude is going down. :)

6. LOL. I suppose if you want to be bleak and sad. It was more of a joke but if unending negativity is
preferred then, by all means, go right ahead.

10. I would characterize your sense of humor as black rather than
bleak - but it is humor. :hi:

12. There's always been a calvinist streak in the nation...
who'd rather see leaders in hair-shirts, sour faces and somber prayer, 24/7.

2. I love Obama
By not intervening, it allows the youth to throw out their leaders. Hey, maybe the price of gas will go down close to $2 bucks. Hey Michelle, check this out!!

11. Don't be so sure. Most of our oil comes from our own country. Oil companies are getting rich
by using excuses. They do this all the time. And they're allowed to do any damned thing they want, all the time.

14. Almost all of our refined fuels come from domestic refineries.
Around 30%, or about 6 million barrels per day, of the petroleum (or crude oil) we use comes from domestic production. The rest is from foreign sources, mostly from Canada, followed by Saudi Arabia, Mexico, and Venezuela. The distinction between domestic and foreign production however is not all that meaningful as the same multi-national companies are active all over the world.

Oil companies are getting obscenely rich. They collectively control virtually 100% of the refined fuels market and can essentially set gasoline prices wherever they want to.

There is no real competitive pressure to lower retail gasoline prices. The major oil companies control the entire supply chain; from extraction, to refining, to distribution, to retail sales.

16. Why, if electricity and water are utilities because these are vital, are oil companies not utilities
There's something seriously wrong in the U.S.

I can see them not being utilities in Europe, since the place is filled with public transport, but we DO NOT have public transport. Nothing one would seriously call public transport.

17. I agree with you completely.
I think the answer "why" may have to do with how the oil industry developed historically. At this point, they have so much money and power that changing how the industry operates would be met with incredible resistance. Overcoming the resistance would take a huge realignment of public opinion.

18. If the U.S. is a model of democracy, then democracy is an oligarchy in disguise.
I can't think of it any other way any more.

23. In some ways...Obama sees himself as carving out HIS PLACE..as to bring Peace to the ME...
Edited on Mon Aug-22-11 08:02 PM by KoKo
He has always loved Reagan ...even as a Candidate...and therefore attracted "handlers/Ops" in the Political Establishment who were seeking to fortify Reagan Legacy. Obama could actually see and believe what he thought "Reagan" tried to do while he grew up...with Reagan as his President.

So......we live with Reagan Kids who remember the "Good Times."

For some of us older...that's really a hard thing to deal with. Because what went BEFORE REAGAN...was the CRUX of what Obama is going to deal with by following his hero.

It's sad times of revolution coming... But...it's always a "long time coming..." even for those of us who don't always consider ourselves "revolutionaries" ...if it comes to the survival or our Children and Grandchildren....we can come out with those PITCHFORKS...quicker than anyone would imagine we could. There's a HISTORY THERE...that Newbies don't know about Wars that Drain us...Corrupt Politicians... A Wall Street/Banksters System against the Average American that's been BUILT UP since Reagan through Carter and Bush I and Clinton and Bush II and now our Current.

It's a PATTERN of PROGRESSION of DEVALUING AVERAGE AMERICAN WHITE COLLAR/BLUE COLLAR and our CHILDREN who are NOT "Born of Privilege."

19. I'm not sure how to answer this....
I guess..I would agree..He is "Pure Magic on Remote."

I take it you heard his "Libyan Speech" and found it confounding and confusing.....But, maybe not?

There were certainly some problems that those of us who grew up in (a certain time...like you and I did) might have "issue with."

It was a hard one to cough down..(that speech) but I think it went well, (overall) with his audience including here at DU..

So, perhaps...some of us aren't cutting him enough slack? OR?
