Jobless Recovery -- A Pointed Political Question this Labor Day. |
|
There is a fact here. Large Corporations are stockpiling profits and not hiring new employees. In fact, even with rising balance sheets, these corporations are laying off workers.
The President has pressed the Business Community to engage, to start hiring to get the economy going. None of that has worked. In fact, the GOP and the Biz Channel shills are adamant that now is the time to be concerned with deficits--going so far as to down-grade America's credit rating. So, the Business Community has staked out a position against government spending to stimulate the economy. But has Wall Street also staked out a position against the middle class?
The President is in a bind. Rising unemployment and very little leeway on government stimulus.
But, isn't that exactly where the GOP wants a Democratic President to be? We know the Chamber of Commerce position with respect to this President.
QUESTION: Is the lack of hiring in this so-called Jobless Recovery, the failure to take on new workers when profits margins are increasing for so many corporations...is it a political statement?
Is the business community really callous enough to turn their backs on the American working class just to send a political message, to stake out a political position? Are they willing to use private sector jobs as leverage to get what they want politically? Are they willing to wager with the living of working people (if only temporarily--to achieve some short term political advantage)?
This Labor Day, are we witnessing the extent to which the Business Community is willing to go to wage war against Labor?

1. How can it be a jobless recovery |
|
when a couple million of jobs have been created the past 2 years...I do agree that not nearly enough have been created but it not a jobless recovery...that's a FOX News talking point.

2. How can the boat be sinking? |
|
As long as we keep baling? That is because the inflow of water is greater than the water baled. See, jobs have been created, but MORE jobs have been lost. Thus, we have unemployment approaching depression era levels. THAT is what is meant by jobless recovery. It doesn't mean that jobs haven't been created, just that NET job creation (Jobs lost + increased jobs seekers from population growth > jobs created) is down.

3. The stimulas money has expired... and the austerity ghouls have cut the rest |
|
Many of he millions of jobs created in the last 2 years were part time.. and have expired.
We are re-living 1932 when the Republicans forced austerity on the country and drove us into the Great Depression.
Real unemployment is above 25%.. don't believe the 9% BS put out by the green eyeshade crowd in Washington.
Until Americans demand "Butter" instead of "GUNS".. there is no hope.

4. That's the problem with the stimulus it made temporary work |
|
not jobs. The money runs out the unemployment just goes back up. The only way to make jobs is to start making stuff in this country again. What is one of the highlights of Obama's latest jobs program? Expanding trade and shipping even more jobs out of country. The manufacturing of war materials for WWII is what finally got us out of the Great Depression.

5. Generally speaking that was the intent of the stimulous to create some temporary demand.. |
|
to allow normal economic activity to recover. It has partially worked but clearly the stimulous was not big enough. The GOP made sure of that.

6. The basic answer is that Corporations simpoly don't give a shit |
|
If the managers and investors in large corporations thought that liberal/progressive economic policies would make big money for them, they'd be right there with Bernie Sanders.
But they see the best way to ensure profitability and healthy returns is to screw America whenever it attempts to impose a balance between the bottom line and social responsibility.
The REAL problems is Idiot America has lost our own moral compass as a society. We allow the Corporate Oligarchs to game the system, and use the government as a branch of their HR departments.
Until there is bot a Social and Political Shift with public pressure and policies that do not allow the Fleecing of America to continue, American workers -- including the middle, working and lower classes -- jobs will continue to be marginalized.
