Gaddafi: Barakeh Obama is a friend: April 2010 |
|
Edited on Thu Oct-20-11 09:03 PM by Mimosa
I suppose Khaddafi was mistaken about who his friends were? From April of 2010. http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3877174,00.htmlLibyan leader Muammar Gaddafi considers the US president a blessing to the Muslim world. In a speech published in London-based al-Hayat newspaper on Saturday, Gaddafi praised Barack Obama, called him a "friend" and said there is no longer any dispute between his country and the US.
Speaking in the Libyan city of Sirt at an event marking the 24th anniversary of an American attack on Libya, he said, "At the time, we were the target of the American cannon, the American navy challenged us in the gulf of Sirt and attacked us all along Libya's shores. America tested Libya, and the Libyan people resisted the large country, but today, thank God, the difference is great."
Equality Gaddafi: Palestinians should have nukes / AFP Libyan leader says Arab nations and 'even the Palestinians' should be allowed nuclear weapons as long as Israel's nuclear ambitions are tolerated. He adds he would oppose Iran acquiring nuclear weapons if it acknowledges such a goal Full Story
He said, "Now, ruling America is a black man from our continent, an African from Arab descent, from Muslim descent, and this is something we never imagined – that from Reagan we would get to Barakeh Obama."
Gaddafi stressed that Obama's presidency is "a major historical gain" and said, "He is someone I consider a friend. He knows he is a son of Africa. Regardless of his African belonging, he is of Arab Sudanese descent, or of Muslim descent. He is a man whose policy should be supported, and he should be assisted in implementing it in any way possible, since he is now leaning towards peace."
He continued, "I urge all peoples to give him this chance and to support this policy, because America is a country that, when its policy is bad – harms the world, and when it is good – it helps the world."

So much misery over the death of a dictator by the same people who cannot ascribe the most sinister, evil motives for EVERY SINGLE ACTION this president takes fast enough.
'Tis truly a curious thing...

47. The comment was taken out of context. |
|
Today she explained that at the time of the interview they had unconfirmed rumors that Qaddafi had been captured. Her comment was in response to a silly question from a reporter asking her if her visit to Libya had anything to do with his capture. She was being sarcastic.

22. Obama didn't topple Qaddafi. The Libyan people did with the help of NATO. |
|
If it hadn't been for the people's uprising NATO would have never even been involved. And actually Sarkozy was more in the forefront of getting NATO involved than Obama was.

46. SoS Clinton strongly disagrees with you: |
|
“Let me begin by saying that President Obama has passed with flying colors every leadership challenge. I mean, look at what he has done. I mean, just to name a few things …. we were looking for bin Laden for 10 years. It was under President Obama’s leadership that he was finally eliminated.
“Libya … with the kind of smart leadership that the president showed, demonstrating that American leadership was essential, but it was important to try to bring others into a coalition of efforts. And the objective was achieved keeping the promise to withdraw from Iraq, but not leave Iraq – by having a robust security and training mission accompanied by a very large diplomatic presence. I could go on and on. I think this president has demonstrated that …. it’s important to have someone at the helm of our country who understands how to manage what is an incredibly complex world now.”http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032608/vp/45005449#45005449Said on MTP today.

14. No, but Rep. Keith Ellison does, as there are many Libyan Americans in his district. |
|
Drop him a line, and ask him about how he feels about it? They don't come any more progressive than Rep. Ellison. I, for one, hope this serves as a warning to other dictator assholes. Afterall, Gadhafi was the one who declared that he wouldn't be taken alive.
We were treated to this same shit after Bin Laden's death. People crying crocodile tears about a world class asshole just to take a shot at Pres. Obama. Forgive me if I don't buy it, or even give a shit.

13. I'm not celebrating his death but I'll be damned if I'll mourn him |
|
The greatest justice that could have come to Gaddafi was him to be hauled before the ICC and sentenced to jail to live amongst the "rats" (what he called the rebels) as well as real rats for the rest of his life.
I wish the people of Libya had not killed him. But I damn sure understand why they did. And the people here mourning his death look like fools.

18. President Obama didn't shoot this man. Libyans did. |
|
And regardless of the fact that Qaddafi was capable of recognizing and appreciating a change in overall U.S. policy, President Obama did not owe him "ride or die" fealty that trumped the atrocities Qaddafi committed on the people of his own nation.
President Obama recognized a despotic regime that was harming the nation - where's the betrayal there?
Perhaps you should write John McCain and Lindsey Graham and commend them for their deferential treatment of Qaddafi.

In that, Gaddafi was mistaken. Despots are often mistaken; it's just that no one ever tells them they're wrong.
