How Pres. Obama Wins By Vetoing The Senate Bill
Edited on Mon Dec-21-09 10:13 AM by Teddykin
If when the bill reaches the President's desk he doesn't sign it, because of the process and deals. He could explain that this is a bill written by lobbyist from bought and paid for members of congress. The president could then order an independent outside investigation on all members of congress, to find out who works for lobbyist, then come back and pass real reform

5. Please learn the process of a bill getting passed in congress folk, more people here complain & dont
...know the process because of what some talking head said vs being patient.

Obama CAN'T veto a bill that the house and senate haven't agreed upon.

2. Come one people, learn the process...the bill goes to committee and he can't veto this bill
...because the house and senate haven't voted on the final version.

The committee bill can be vetoed if he doesn't like it but not a bill that the house and senate haven't agreed upon

results for us.

So, if the Senate votes this bill (which will happen, but still has not happened), and after the conference reports come back (probably close to the Senate bill if Nelson and Conrad have their wish, but not the same), it seems doubtful that Obama will veto it, but, if he does, it would be a disaster for all.

12. That's not the point.
Your veto scenario - his entire first term is riding on having something he can call HC reform passed.

Why would he veto it?
Why would he expose other Dems to your lobbyist 'investigation'?
What possible better (or even DIFFERENT) outcome could there be given the same players, same lobbyists, same leadership, same punditry, same everything? Except now everyone knows the other side's cards.

16. He cut the deals with the lobbyists!
He'd be vetoing his own handiwork, and that's absurd. As poor as the Senate bill is, it's an improvement on the status quo, and while passing it into law as it stands will disenchant Democratic voters going into 2010, not getting a healthcare bill would make Democrats look completely inept.
