A friend just called me and said she passed away earlier tonight. Still searching these internets to confirm.

2. Only when you see her Wikipedia article updated.
That's the most authoritative public reference I know of for this kind of thing.

3. If it's true, it's nowhere on the Web
Seems like it would be in Google News, at minimum, but it's not.

until after the casket has been interred.

6. I don't think so.....
There is a website in the UK called (believe it or not) "Is Margaret Thatcher Dead yet?"

They keep track of this issue, and as of now, they report that she is still alive.

19. Well, you can still give her a proper Irish wake....
You know, the kind where everyone gets pissed and shouts abuse at the corpse(which is propped up in the midst of the festivities)!

In your case, you'd have to make an effigy, but then you could make the event non-denominational by giving it a funeral pyre.

35. As an unrepentant Unionist....
I heartily concur.

I recently moved to W. Yorkshire and apparently people here were once employed in sectors other than making coffee and tending hotels. I know people across Northern Britain/Ireland will welcome that day too.

Saturday, Jan 01 2011 6 a.m.

"Although Lady Thatcher is currently in good health – she was with the Queen at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday – The Mail on Sunday has learned that plans are under way for her funeral, when the time eventually comes, to take place at St Paul’s Cathedral."

23. It would be a great way to start the year, but can we confirm?
I suppose I should be nicer. It would be a sucky way to start the year for douchebags, authoritarians and asshats. Thatcher would have been big on pre-emptive things, so I'm sure she could appreciate my pre-emptive rejoicing over her death.

I went over to an Italian newspaper to see if there was anything there and there wasn't,
but I noticed that Governor Bill Richardson made the FRONT PAGE, towards the middle.

"Il governatore del New Mexico: «No alla grazia postuma per Billy the Kid»"
Translation is: The Governor of New Mexico: "No to the posthumous pardon for Billy the Kid.

It's always fun seeing what news from the USA they post over seas ;)
