I lost my best and longest friend in 9/11 |
|
I can't bring myself to celebrate Osama's death. Don't misunderstand. I wanted him to be dead, but I find no joy in this. I thought I would. Instead, maybe the smallest measure of relief, but mostly I am very sad. I am crying again for the loss of my friend. She's never coming back and I miss her so damn much.
Fuck Osama Fuck War Fuck Hate

2. So sorry for your loss. |
|
Am I sorry Osama is dead? Nope.
Will I take to the street and yell "nah nah nah nah, hey hey hey, goodbye"? No, I will not.

4. Wow! I thought reason was dead tonight. |
|
But your post proves it still lingers.
Your reaction to this news is the one I'm very sympathetic to.

5. I do understand why some are dancing in the streets. |
|
Especially in NYC. I thought that would be me and am surprised it isn't. Somehow more death, more killing, more mourning just doesn't fix anything for me...........

6. Yah. Once it's done, it doesn't much matter how or why. |
|
The loss is a stand alone.
I am, however, pleased that the spoiled rich boy is no longer enjoying his mansion in Abbottabad.

No, it hasn't. It couldn't possibly be.

10. Initially I was like Hell Yeah! |
|
But then I thought...not one of those 3000+ is coming back. None of the troops who died are coming home. And that leaves me sad. I am very happy he's dead, so that he may never hurt another soul (American or otherwise). Peace to you on this weird day.

I don't celebrate bin Laden's death--I would much rather he stand beside Bush, Cheney and the others on trial for war crimes.
Now, bring our troops home, Mr. President.

13. I have friends that stayed on the phone with Cantor employees nonstop until they jumped. |
|
Edited on Mon May-02-11 07:34 AM by nomb
Many Cantor employee's jobs were to be on the phone continuously with Chicago. These pairs all stayed on with each other until the end.
I don't know why, some guess it was because they were in their 20's, worked long hours continuously on the phone with one person and knew no one really besides family.
The WTC Cantor people I'm referring to did make occasional side calls by cell phone, but they never hung up - and my Chicago friends that were on the line never felt like they could leave them.
And then they jumped. There are deep black holes of post-traumatic stress carried by more than a few here in Chicago who were, in a very real sense, there - in the tower.

14. I understand what you mean... |

And probably a lot of people who lost loved ones on that day would feel the same way.
Nothing...ever...will bring their loved ones back.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
My family came a hair away from a similar loss when my oldest stepdaughter, who was supposed to be in one of the towers that day for a conference, got sick and had to stay home.
It still gives me chills to think of it.

You put into words much of what I am also feeling and I feel like such a misfit among all those chanting USA USA!
I lost a friend in Lockerbie and for nearly 20 years, my passwords have always been some variation on the word: peace.
I am sorry for your loss.

22. I view it as jingoism...a type of brainwashing that was heavily pushed by the Bush adm. |

Plenty of people still under the spell, I guess.

Neither one of us did any great rejoicing when McVey was executed.
There was relief and closure since it was over but there wasn't any partying in the streets.

I lost members of my congregation, neighbors, and friends. I cannot find it within myself to celebrate today. It's only reminded me how much was lost. If I could count the ways his death will likely change my life I don't even need to start with a single finger. I can't see how it makes a difference. Maybe because I assumed he was already dead. I don't know. I just know I don't particularly feel like dancing on a grave right now.
