OBL and his assassination... a few thoughts, mostly just one
Let's say, for shits and giggles, we capture OBL and put him in Gitmo or some other location (you can't keep him in an undisclosed location, too high profile).

What does that make that location? A target. A target that all terrorists would plan to hit so they could free their "righteous holy man."

There was no other option than to kill this guy. There was no other option than dumping his body in the middle of the sea so it wouldn't become a holy site for the terrorists.

I think some folks here need to use the brains they were given and think beyond knee-jerk reactions to the killing of a man without "due process."

1. Don't buy it
By capturing him, he would have been able to provide invaluable information about terrorist activity. And they could have easily said he was in a secret location precisely because he was so high profile.

I think it was very convenient that he was killed. And I agree that it was not going to go down any other way, on account of fear of what he might have had to say.

5. And do you think we could have gotten him to talk without torturing him?
No, he never would have given up anything and we would have become a target (more so than we already are) for terrorists who would have wanted to pay the evil US for capturing, detaining and torturing OBL.

I love a good conspiracy theory as much as the next gal but sometimes things are done for reasons that aren't nefarious.

6. who knows
maybe he would have talked. The guy seemed to have a lot to say in the years previous with his yearly broadcasts, and didn't seem shy. He seemed to be a self styled spiritual pseudo intellectual, those types love to talk.

Anyway, the point is we never got a chance to know because he was killed in the first place.

I, for one, and I bet there are many others, would have loved to hear how exactly the 9/11 attack planning went down and all the details of that event.

2. Agreed...
This morning on "Democracy Now!" the talk was about how skillful the SEAL commandos are with firearms and how it was possible for a marksman to have taken down OBL with a single shot to his head from a distance. I thought "No, he was executed with a single shot to his head."

Then he was disposed of for the very reasons you stated.

Nothing more...nothing less...

3. We can't put a ghost in prison!
He needed to be dead to keep our States secrets. Don't forget the only folks on the planet who were allowed to fly on 911 were the family members of Osama. Go figure. This does not pass the smell test IMO. But hey this kind of circus was not designed for the thinking person! Any doubters will be labeled conspiracy theorists and squashed immediately!

4. Even worse...
A shrine. It makes anyplace OBL sleeps or is buried a shrine to his martyrdom.

It's very wise Obama had him respectfully buried at sea. For all I know it was ordered that he be shot on sight. That's good too.

7. Right, cause America has a history of not being able to handle high profile prisoners
This is such a ridiculous argument. If we have to take precautions, our security officials will do so. We've done it in the past and will need to again in the future. You insult all American prison facilities for no reason. We don't have a history of jailbreaks in the US.
