Here are the dynamics of the Bin Laden situation...

There was some sort of raid on the mansion he was hiding out in.

A fire-fight ensued. Bin Laden was killed.

On edit: The building did not burn.


According to twitter sources near the building, there were loud explosions heard. Which were probably mortar rounds or missiles? Could have been some other form of incendiary device or a stun grenade.


It would be interesting to know if this was truly an attempt to capture Bin Laden or if it was more of an attempt to eliminate a threat.

2. I believe the loud explosions heard was the helicopter getting destroyed

From what I understand, it was a hard landing that damaged the chopper. They evacced and set demo charges to destroy it, making it unusable.

Also, from what I saw earlier from the ABC footage, the compound was largely intact and I didn't see any fire damage or destruction from high explosives. It seems they certainly took the occupants by surprise.
