Republicons are still traumatized about black hawk down...
Edited on Wed May-04-11 12:23 AM by butterfly77
is this why they were so afraid to look for or go in certain places to get Osama???? I heard some rightwingers on fox talking about it was gutsy for the President to go in and get Bin laden considering Black hawk down and this is not the first time I have heard them talking about Somalia. Aren't these the same bad ass mfkers who say these colors don't run...

If a Republican were in office right now, Osama bin Laden would still be in his compound, burning trash and slowly dying of old age. The Republican pundits who credit George W. Bush for Bin Laden’s death are peddling 100 percent bullshit. Bush, you might remember, wasn’t even looking in the right country. Not that he cared much about finding Bin Laden anyway. In a press conference on March 13, 2002, Bush said: “I don’t know where is. You know, I just don’t spend that much time on him… to be honest with you… I truly am not that concerned about him.” Six years later, in a July 2008 interview, Larry King asked then presidential candidate John McCain whether he would send U.S. troops into Pakistan "if you knew that bin Laden was in Pakistan." McCain said, "I'm not going to go there and here's why: because Pakistan is a sovereign nation.”

Obama never even told Pakistan we were coming.

1. Iraq was a sovereign nation; so was Afghanistan.
Too bad McCain hasn't always had this philosophy.

2. Our military learned how to do this from past failures.
They changed their technology and their strategy.

Remember Carter's similar attempt to rescue the hostages. Equipment supposedly failed. They didn't have enough back-up, and they didn't have good enough, close enough launching bases.

Then the Clinton administration wanted to take out Bin Laden, but someone important from the Middle East was visiting the compound, and the US did not have equipment precise enough to successfully conduct the raid. (That's what I remember reading about it.)

There were probably other instances in which lessons were learned. It is so important to remember the history about these things.

7. And, yet, they still planned on having no backup helicopters.

Until the president forced them to rewrite the plan to include those. Good thing he overruled the military on that one.

3. and carters failed attempt. it is gutsy. everyone acknowledges it is gutsy. gutsy may be
what is lacking for the repug. cause if there is a fail, finger points to only one, and it is so HUGE.

with flat out bombing the shit out of something, there is an expectation of fail. so the repercussions are not so great.

with this action, so many things can go wrong and all eyes are there.

6. Helicopters don't really do well in sandy conditions
They have very fine sand in the Middle East, and frequent sandstorms. All that airborne sand gets into engines, transmissions and gearboxes and just grinds them to nothing in short order.

Desert One was done before we had proper technology to keep sand out of aircraft systems, plus Oliver North and Richard Secord were major players in that operation.

Black Hawk Down? The Somalis shot the helicopters down.

This operation was run after those airframes had been in the desert for the last ten years. After we finally leave both Afghanistan and Iraq we are going to have to throw all our helicopters away and get new ones because they have been worked far too hard in far too hostile an environment.

"Black Hawk Down? The Somalis shot the helicopters down. "

They are always talking about how they will go anywhere or fight any enemy but, seem to be shocked because the Navy Seals were doing what they were trained to do..

I believe the father of one of the 911 victims on CNN and they asked him if the President should go to ground zero and he said ".

I guess it would be alright if he goes but, this is just my opinion" Now I wonder what he would have said if the President was GW..
