Gee, This Doesn't Seem Like A Planted Story AT ALL (Roll Eyes) |
|
http://news.yahoo.com/s/time/20110504/us_time/08599206932700The kids in the classroom with Bush when he chose to continue reading "My Pet Goat" instead of dealing with 9/11 all talk about what a great move it was for him to continue to sit there and not get up and leave. And this story is being reported NOW. Yeah, this isn't a planted story with coached statements or anything.

They may still not know what happened on 9/11.

9. The weirdest part of that story: They didn't want to scare the |
|
children but after the president left they rolled a TV into the 2nd grade classroom and watched the events unfold on live TV. What?

12. The President standing up, saying "I'm sorry to leave but I have something I need to do" and quietly |
|
walking out would have left them more confused than simply sitting there, red faced and blank faced? " "I think he was trying to keep everybody calm, starting with us," says Guerrero. Dubrocq agrees: "I think he was trying to protect us." Booker Principal Gwendolyn Tose-Rigell, who died in 2007, later insisted, "I don't think anyone could have handled it better. What would it have served if had jumped out of his chair and ran out of the room?""
"I'm just glad he didn't get up and leave, because then I would have been more scared and confused."
How about a third option? What happened to our ability to educate kids to think?
1) sit there like a moran. 2) jump up, screaming "omg!" while rending your hair and race out of the room. 3) quietly and respectfully stand up, give a brief explanation and walk out of the room.

19. Seriously. I agree. If they were concerned over a look on his face, seems giving a brief explanation |
|
would be the best thing to do. Idiotic spin indeed.

If nothing else, there's always the (unsavory) option of lying to the kids, saying he needs to take a phone call.
Something, anything would have been better than sitting there for seven minutes with this dumb look of "WTF do I do" on his face.

He just sat there because that is what he was told to do when the magic words "America is under attack" were whispered in his ear. I am sure he was coached to do exactly what he did. I mean, if "AMERICA IS UNDER ATTACK" was whispered into any of OUR ears and we were in a classroom full of children, wouldn't we first try to protect the children? Get information? Bush KNEW.

|
Says it scared the milk out her. America was being attacked, and the President just sat there staring at her picture. Says she felt really "creeped out." Her Feta Cheese has been a bit off ever since. Film at eleven.

21. Three observations on Bush's behavior on 9/11 |
|
1. He didn't act surprised because he knew in advance what was going to happen.
2. He didn't order any action to be taken because the decision had already been made to let it happen.
3. He then ran away and hid in a bomb shelter on the other side of the continent, one of the most astonishing acts of cowardice in human history, and bragged to the country that HE was safe.

23. Thanks, George, for not doing your job as president.... |
|
at a time when is was possible even more lives were at risk, rather than confuse and frighten some kids who had teachers who cared about them right there to take over. In reality you must have realized you didn't have the social skills to stand up, thank the kids for reading for you, tell them how well they did, and tell them you had to leave to take care of something important, without scaring them to death. Because you're an idiot.

They were little kids, for fuck's sake. Their memory of some shit that happened at that age is foggy and totally colored by subsequent coverage and societal mythmaking.

Since had Bush calmly left the reading and then did his damn job, we may have prevented 1 or 2 of the plans from hitting their intended targets.
