Warning from Robert Reich: Repubs plan to kill Medicare
Former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich has an urgent message about a new plan gaining traction in Washington. He calls it "the Republican plan with lipstick," and it's really dangerous. It includes a "Medicare kill switch" that we have to stop.

To find out how it works, check out Reich's warning and then pass it on so we can stop this plan before it gets off the ground.

Thanks for all you do.

P.S. If you want to read more about why this is so dangerous, check out economist Dean Baker's post on Huffington Post or Robert Reich's post on his blog.

2. It does seem America has gone insane
We have what appears to be a large group of people that are perfectly fine and actively pushing policies that will ultimately kill or severely degrade the health and safety of tens of millions of Americans while at the same time encouraging the practice of spending trillions to fight useless wars.

4. Exactly!!! My guess is about 1/3 of this country at least will be
destitute and of extremely poor health in the future. Just guessing here, but something like 54M people are in poverty now, IMO those are going to be added to in coming years.

If we start cutting SS and Medicare, and more on Medicaid, that will throw zillions more into impoverishment. And, today, there have to be millions living one paycheck from being unemployed. I'm just guessing here, but IMO it's not too hard to see eventually about 1/3 at least of this country will be in dire situations.

And then the domino effect will really kick in, plus our failing educational system by design, our crumbling infrastructure and on top of that our slipping world leadership in many disciplines.

About all the US is going to be good for are wars, death and destruction.

The country is heading toward war being our best product and a few percentage of the country hoarding all of the wealth. This will be a 4th world country.

12. Not all America, but surely the Neocons and their ilk. These are very dangerous
times, and they are the ones who are making it dangerous for all.

They stop government from functioning any which way they can.
Then who will stop their rich friends from robbing the rest of us blind.
We are witnessing the greatest theft in history right before our eyes and our representatives open the doors for the thieves.

5. The criminals have found corporations, Wall Street, banking and our government to be highly
profitable and perfectly legal. And our dumbed down population is going to be slaughtered.

6. It's plain to see that the Repubs. are doing their damnedest to destroy this nation the way it is,
and go back to the way it was in the distant past, where less than 1% of the population
owned it all. The rest existed merely to serve the few. This was what our Revolution
was fighting against. These guys are not only sick, they are also traitors.

18. I remember when Bush was in power, the overly aggressive Neocons
came out with such statements as those who did not agree with them were unAmericasn,
then unpatriotic, and then even traitorous. A Neocon of all people calling others
traitors?! They were describing themselves -- and very accurately, at that! They
are out right now to destroy the America we know, and turn it into profit for
themselves only, and the rest of the country will be their servants. They don't
need to say it, but that is their goal. We can see it in every greedy, selfish and
grandiose movement that they make. They are the traitors.

17. Yes, and make them pay back what they have stolen from the
people over the years + interest, and then block off all the tax loopholes
they've been taking advantage of. And those proven guilty of having committed
crimes will be sentenced to do time in jails, We'll hit them where they are
the most vulnerable -- their greed for profits. That's where they'll hurt
the most when they not only don't make profits, but will also pay fines and
suffer losses for their proven misdeeds.

What MoveOn has been doing with Fox News (threatening advertisers on Beck's shows
with boycotts of their products, if they didn't stop advertising during his shows).
Some 300 advertisers have left Beck's shows. It has been extremely effective. Fox
News will be firing Beck. These guys have to be put on a leash and reined in. It's
the only way to deal with them.

19. Start quantifying what individuals will have to start setting aside to save *now*
in order to afford these severe cost cuts in the future. I am sure that mathematicians could create equations to model the effects that will vary (higher rate of per year savings for those closer to the age or retirement) - as to what has to be saved per year before retirement as to just have a comparable retirement to those retiring now.

Start putting some real individual pricetags to individuals. Note how many people do not earn enough to put that much side a year - (I would predict that this would be a significant number - given that it is likely that thousands of dollars a year would need to be set aside) - and for those that can - what will the economic impact be of pulling that much money out of the economy (as they are in savings rather than purchasing things). Then compare the different impacts upon the economy of revoking the Bush era tax cuts on higher incomes. These would be adult conversations - which we are not having.

The GOP is very dishonest with the public about the individual price tags (and the amount annually which would have to start being put aside tomorrow (job 3 and 4 to afford?)). Exceptionally irresponsible policy - not to explain what folks need to start doing today to afford the changes planned by the govt. The level of increased impoverishedness without financial planning is significant.

I know, I am preaching to the choir.

23. It's always wise to put something aside for a rainy day. I realize that
many people don't do it. Aside from this, it would also be wise to
do what we can to win in 2012 -- and that includes making sure that
the Repubs.don't get away with any election fraud dirty tricks.
Beginning now.
