Rick Santorum Gives Me The Creeps |
|
Some folks become super religious because it's the only way to control the evil thoughts swimming around in their head. They think that everyone has these same deep dark thoughts, and without religion, esp. Christianity, all hell would break loose. That's why it's so important to them to force everyone to be Christian through the use of government power.
Rick reminds me of such a person. He's wound up so tight that he may explode.

9. Think you're probably right -- he credits religion with enablilng him |
|
to keep his evil impulses under control, and feels that everybody needs this constraint.
While reading John Cheever's journal in The New Yorker, I remember being amazed that he puzzled again and again how other men could consistently control their desire to bed attractive men -- he castigated himself for being weak, believing other men were stronger than he and could successfully subdue their attraction to men and remain sexually faithful to a wife. (He would sneak off to New York, and come back feeling guilty.)
I wonder if it ever occurred to Cheever that some men feel no desire to go to bed with other men.
Just an extension of Republicans always accusing others of the nasty things they're doing themselves.
