Walker Signs Bill Removing Sick Pay Law

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Gov. Scott Walker has signed a bill that prohibits local governments from passing ordinances guaranteeing workers' paid sick and family leave.

The Republican measure came after a state appeals court upheld a Milwaukee ordinance requiring employers to give workers paid sick leave. Milwaukee voters overwhelmingly approved the ordinance by referendum two years ago but it's been tied up in the courts ever since.

The bill declares that statewide employee leave provisions trump local ordinances and prohibits cities, villages, towns and counties from adopting their own.

Walker, a Republican, says in a statement the bill removes another barrier to creating jobs. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, a Democrat who ran against Walker for governor, opposes the bill, saying it could drive jobs out of the city.

5. I worked at a small Catholic college back in the late 1980s

We had no sick-leave policy. I asked the human resources director about this and she said sick leave was determined by the supervisor.

In other words, my supervisor determined if I should be paid for a sick day taken. The few times I was sick (a day or two), she questioned me on my day back about my illness, if I saw a doctor, and what medications I had taken. She used that information to determine if I should be paid.

I left that college after a few years...

A well-defined internal control policy would call for the \employer to (i) the employers's competitive objective in the overall value of the benefits packagecompared to that of other firms, and (ii) eligibility requirements for various benefits and the rationale for different probationary periods with different benefits,

I question whether that the university is manging its finance correctly when they lack a written policies and procedures for compensation. I probably would clean their clock as an auditor if I auditing their internal contorls.

The agenda is more important than democracy or what the people want. They'll try to stay in power even if it means cheating. Even if they lose power, as long as the agenda stands, the corporate jobs will come as soon as they're voted out and they'll get their reward either way.

Sick days: Having sick days will hurt the chance that the not-quite-here-yet employees might find jobs, while it screws the people who already have jobs.

Abortion/family planning: They claim the help the not-quite-here-yet, while their policies hurt the women and children who are already here.

In one thing after another, they say we need laws to help something that is kind of over the rainbow, and they screw all of us who are here already. It's disgusting.

If people won't get paid for missing a day when they are sick they will come to work sick and in turn spread the illness to other workers lowering productivity overall.
