Controlling which Friends can see your Status Updates on Facebook.
Edited on Fri May-06-11 06:21 PM by Lex

This seems to come up a lot so I thought I'd post it here. Feel free to ignore it if you have no interest in, or are too awesome for, Facebook.

*How to keep your status updates from being seen from all who are your FB Friends*

Log into your Facebook account.

Upper right hand, pull down "Account" and choose "Edit Friends"
At the top of the "Friends" page that comes up, choose "+ Create List." (This will allow you to create a sub-list for certain friends but they do not know this and aren't notified in any way.)
Name the List whatever you want. I named mine "Limited." Then choose the Friends to go into Limited by clicking on them. (They will also stay in your regular Friends list too, but now they will also be in a sub-category called "Limited.") But DON'T stop there.

Now go back to "Account" and choose "Privacy Settings."
In the "Things I Share" category, on "Posts by Me" to the left choose "Custom" and then where it says "Make this visible to" choose Friends Only and where it says "Hide this from" choose "Limited." (the "Limited" will be ALL the people you put in the sub-list of "Limited" for your Friends).
You can do this same thing for every item on that page--Photos, etc.

This is how you keep your status updates and photos and whatever else from certain Friends that you've placed in your "Limited" or whatever-you-called it Sub List. YOU control who of your FB friends see what you post on FB.

3. Good info.
I have photos that I set as visible only to myself. Other photos are set to be visible for only a couple of people, such as, if I think the person in the photo is shy. I don't usually do this, but it has come in handy.

Now, if we could get everyone to please stop making their posts visible to friends of friends... when you have it set that way, anytime someone comments on your post it will appear on all your friends' friends' wall. As in...possibly thousands of people you don't know!
