Gov Walker Signs Bill to Kill Worker's Sick Leave
*cross posted from Editorials*

Today in the U.S., paid sick leave is a privilege, when it should be a right. Now, in the wake of his recent bid to end the collective bargaining rights of state employees, Gov. Scott Walker, R-Wis., signed a bill that overturns Milwaukee's paid sick leave law. Walker was in Milwaukee at the Italian Community Center on Thursday, where he went to offices of the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce to sign Senate Bill 23.

This appears to be part of a recent pattern of petty counterattacks against the labor movement by Walker, as this move follows his recent sarcastic program, which claims to recognize state employees for their hard work - after having removed their collective bargaining rights, of course.

Walker maintains that this latest course of action is to remove barriers that hold back job creation - a likely story, of course. Moreover, the Drum Major Institute, in a study that examines the paid sick leave law in San Francisco, found "no evidence that businesses have been negatively impacted by the enactment of paid sick leave." Furthermore, the U.S. economy loses $180 billion each year due to sick employees infecting co-workers because they couldn't stay home.

2. Walker is gonna be ripped from office
This law will have multiple bad effects .... sick people coming to work and spreading their illness
around, hardship in paying everyday bills to average people, and this crap is just plain mean spirited.

No sick days .... now that is a real vote getter.

3. When state workers get sick they should all report to the governors office
If I had the flew, I would be going to the Capitol and puking on his desk.

This is sweat shop tactics.

9. Private employers were required to give employees up to nine paid sick days each year.

He overturned Milwaukee's sick pay ordinance, which voters approved in 2008 with 70 percent of the vote. It's been tied up in court since but it's been recently upheld.

11. For the record, I care for patients in a "Right-to-work" State.
I can't tell you how many patients I have seen who wouldn't have had to be hospitalized for pneumonia or asthma exacerbation had they been allowed to stay home and heal. But ... no sick time and no insurance...what's a guy/girl to do?

F&ck every one of these heartless bastards. This does NOTHING to increase job growth....except through death and disability.

13. We need more paid time off to care for our families. Not less.
If we had a liberal media there would be more discussion about the more humane policies of other developed nations-- mandated sick leave, vacation pay, family leave, etc. -- The Motherhood Manifesto on Link TV last night was great. Referred us to www.momsrising.org for more info.
