Wisconsin GOP bill: If you move before the recall election, you can't vote
Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

The fast pace of a bill requiring photo ID at the polls is the latest sign Republicans are moving quickly on their legislative agenda in the face of likely recalls of state senators.

... People would be asked to show their IDs at elections later this year, but would still be allowed to vote if they didn't have IDs with them. They would be told that the law is changing and that photo IDs would be required to vote starting in 2012.

That means the likely recalls of state senators later this year would be some of the last elections conducted without a photo ID requirement. Attempts are being made to recall nine senators - six Republicans and three Democrats - and some elections could be held as early as July 12.

Other key provisions of the bill would likely go into effect in time for the recall elections. Those include requiring people to sign poll books when they vote and having to have lived in their voting ward for 28 days before the election. Now, voters must live in a ward just 10 days before an election.

1. Fight Back. Become a Voter Registrar.
Scott Walker and his storm troopers have begun the war against voting. They know that most new voters vote Democratic.

You can fight back by becoming a Special Registration Deputy with the authority to register new voters on a state-wide basis.

I spoke with Allison Coakley, Training Coordinator, Elections Division, Wisconsin Government Accountability Board. In Wisconsin state training for Special Registration Deputies (SRDs) was suspended until after the May Special Elections. The SRD program will be revisited in mid-May and training may be scheduled depending on Board staff work priorities at that time.

Being an SRD authorized you to register voters on a state-wide basis.

To sign up for becoming a Special Registration Deputy, call Allison Coakley, Training Coordinator, Elections Division, Wisconsin Government Accountability Board: allison.coakley@wi.gov or (608) 261-2033.

To become a registration officer for a municipality, contact that municipal court. They can authorize you.
