Jobs growth may pick up, but not by that much
Pace barely keeps up with population growth, instead of affecting unemployment rate

1/2/2011 5:48:24 PM ET 2011-01-02T22:48:24

WASHINGTON — U.S. private employers have recorded 11 consecutive months of job gains, yet the number of people who are so discouraged that they have given up searching for work stands at an all-time high.

Friday's employment report is expected to show the pace of payroll growth accelerated last month after a disappointing showing in November. However, consumers' assessment of the job market deteriorated in December, according to the Conference Board's latest consumer confidence survey.

This disconnect is symptomatic of the state of the labor market. Yes, it is recovering, but at a pace that can hardly keep up with population growth, let alone quickly bring down the 9.8 percent unemployment rate.

Private employment increased by an average of 106,000 per month through November. At that rate, it would take more than 6 years just to replace the jobs lost during the latest recession.

THANK YOU

edit for clarification - in my first post, I wasn't calling the folk in those countries assholes - I was referring to the American companies that pimp off jobs to the lowest overseas bidders

2. "yes, it's recovering" but not enough to match population growth...
so how is that a recovery? The real disconnect is the MSM still treats this as a recession. It is a depression and the result of corporate destruction of the economy that has been going on for years.

10. One term Obama
BOOM!!! His presidency just blew up. No way he can generate enough jobs to get the unemployment rate below 9%. Therefore, he will not win re-election.

12. This is criminal inaction by government ---
as is the policies which do little or nothing to stop homelessness and to

help those already homeless --

poverty is something American government has become #1 at creating!!
