Bristol Palin says she had corrective jaw surgery
Note to Bristlecone...it's cosmetic surgery, no matter how your tiny flea-bitten, permafrost addled mind tries to spin it.

http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/42987524/ns/today-entertainment/

Bristol Palin admits her recent change in appearance was due to a procedure — but not plastic surgery.

The 20-year-old daughter of 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin tells Us Weekly that she underwent corrective jaw surgery in December, a month after she finished third on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars." Her face now appears thinner, with higher cheekbones and an angular jaw.

May is a special time of the season for TV viewers. It's when many are stunned by how their favorite shows have ended. But the perfect surprise that keeps everyone talking isn't easy to come by.

The new look, complete with Palin losing 5 pounds, was unveiled April 30 at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner in Washington, D.C.

"Yes, it improved the way I look, but this surgery was necessary for medical reasons," she told the magazine for its May 23 issue, which will be on newsstands Friday.

5. Agreed. It took a unique face
and made her look plain. She was really beautiful BEFORE. It's Jennifer Grey all over again.

Which would make Bristol 1/16.

33. Which, interestingly, is often enough.

My mother in law is 1/4 Native American. My wife is 1/8. Our kids are 1/16th. The rest of our genetics are almost exclusively Irish/Scot/German.

I'm paler than a snowflake, have bright blue eyes, and freckles. My wife has pale skin, but her face and many of her features are definitely from the Native American gene pool.

Two of our kids are pale and European looking. The third, my oldest son, is darker skinned, has dark brown hair, and could easily pass himself off as a full blooded native if he wanted. Most people here in California simply assume that he's hispanic when they first meet. He's far darker skinned than my wife or I, but when we looked at a photo of my MIL's 1/2 Native American mother, the resemblance was striking and unmistakable. There is NO SIGN that he's 15/16th's Irish/Scot/German. Well, almost no sign...the Irish genes wouldn't give up without a fight, and he DOES have a smattering of tiny, dark freckles across his face :)

Genetics are funny and random, and percentages often don't mean a thing.

There really is a reason to get it done. Maybe that's why she got it done, maybe not, but I really don't care.

10. Why would "corrective" surgery change the shape of her whole face?
It's like actresses claiming they had nose jobs to correct a deviated septum.
Correcting deviating septum ain't going to change the shape of the nose.

15. I had a good friend that had it done
It moved her jaw out and did change the shape.

I don't see why it would matter if she had it for cosmetic reasons or not anyway.

21. Her "corrective" surgery was lipo --
she had all fat along her jawline and under her chin sucked out. Plain as day, nothing else. She is prepping for her new reality show - was probably tired of looking at herself with a round face.

26. I wondered about that, too --
but I think that her chin is just looking longer because her face is now less wide with all the neck/jawline fat gone. Kind of an optical illusion. I've done make-up work on faces that have had jawline work and have seen that.

11. I hear ya...
...I've spent about 90 seconds on this, and I'm ashamed--so I'll only spend 20 seconds more
and then move on.

My question is--after your friends had this corrective jaw surgery, did they look completely
different, more beautiful and ten years younger?

I think Bristol looks great. I just don't like their fibbing. Her entire face looks different--even
the skin on her neck and under her jaw is firmed up--and her cheekbones are higher and more produnced.
Even her eyes look different.

17. Yes, a friend of mine did look a bit different
As far as the rest of her, it could be due to weight loss and skin treatments and really makeup can make big differences.

9. Drastic changes...
...and I really don't have the time or energy to analyze all of this, but frankly--this
was cosmetic surgery. Her face looks completely different. She didn't like her full face
and she did have a full face. But please...don't tell us that this was done for medical
reasons.

This entire family has grown so accustomed to lying.

Her private medical travails! What a thoughtful young lady. Now, in addition to encouraging women to be incubators no matter what, she can also encourage us to fix our weak chins for purely medical reasons.

It's time for her canonization

25. I've had two maxillofacial/jaw surgeries.
It made me look a lot better, but it was most certainly not a "cosmetic procedure," notwithstanding my personal motivations. Jaw surgeries of this sort are very rarely performed if they do not improve the bite. I certainly cannot understand why someone would be criticized for it in any case.

27. Corrective? What did she break it on Dancing with the Stars
or something? How is reshaping a jaw, now considered corrective? I'll bet her insurance paid for it too, since it was "corrective". Right...

31. Link to some before and after pictures and their case studies.
If you insist on being a member of the "mean girls" club at least pick on someone for something that isn't done for medical purposes. Otherwise you run the risk of looking like nothing more than, a shallow mean girl; regardless of your sex.

http://www.sanjoseoms.com/case_studies/casestudies2.html

There are valid reasons for having corrective jaw surgery. Whether she had hers done for those reasons wouldn't really be an issue if people would focus on her words and actions rather than her looks.

I know, I know, how hairy, scary feminist of me to be so angry and humorless about judging people on their looks.
