GOP governor candidate calls Obama a 'Sambo,' Pelosi a 'bimbo'
Edited on Wed May-11-11 01:57 PM by Adenoid_Hynkel

Former Del. Larry Faircloth, whose website says he's a "24 year veteran member of the West Virginia House of Delegates, where he served on the following committees: Judiciary, Finance, Rules, Special Investigations, Government Organization, Rule-Making, and Banking/Insurance."

Even the local teabaggers think he went to far. Like all Republicans, he aint apologizing and is stickin' to his conservative princ'puls:

Faircloth referred to Pelosi as a "bimbo."

"Is she not one?" Faircloth said in a Tuesday evening telephone interview. "I mean, a lot of people think she is a bimbo; that's why they replaced Congress with Republicans, and they removed her as speaker. I don't find that as anything different than a political poke at her."

He also referred to Obama as a "Sambo," a term many consider racist.

"It was meant to be a joke, and if they took it different, I told the people there that I apologized," Faircloth said.

He added, "We've been tiptoeing around the president."

68. It's ALWAYS a joke, isn't it?
Kinda like when one of the lawyers on a TV drama asks an incredibly inflammatory question, and then, as opposing council rises to object, says, "Withdrawn!"

And yes, sometimes our country is way too politically correct but words like "Bimbo" and "Sambo" are clearly sexist/racist.

35. It's weird when you're around someone who uses that word like it's salt
I went to a concert with a new friend about 5-6 years ago. That friend had others coming to the concert and both my friend and my friend's direct friends were all really nice people. But one of her friends brought some relative along, a women in her late 40s who looked like she had lived a hard life of heavy smoking & drinking. I guess she was going thru a divorce and this was a night we were to be cheering this woman up.

Since these were all new people I was meeting (and btw we're all white), I did my best to be nice & friendly with everyone. Friends of my friends can sometimes end up being friends of my own. But this woman, ugh, if I never see her again in my lifetime that would be good. She used the N-word like it was on sale 10 for a $1.

Now normally I'm the type of gal that will correct someone when they use politically incorrect words. Ask my nieces and nephews - they would never use the obviously bad phrases but some of the milder ones like 'That's Gay'. But I didn't know this woman and honestly, she looked like she'd kick the shit out of me too. But I did avoid that woman the rest of the night, I really have no desire to have a converation with someone who thinks it's ok to use that word.

What's funny is at the concert, I noticed that I wasn't the only one avoiding her - other than the person who invited her, the rest of us stayed away from her like the plague.

Nothing makes a person look uglier than using hateful racist.

19. Actually it was a major restaraunt chain till the early '80's
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sambo's

Sambo's

Sambo's is a restaurant, formerly an American restaurant chain, started in 1957 by Sam Battistone and Newell Bohnett. Though the name was taken from portions of the names of its founders, the chain soon found itself associated with The Story of Little Black Sambo. Battistone and Bohnett capitalized on the coincidence by decorating the walls of the restaurants with scenes from the book, including a dark-skinned boy, tigers and a pale, magical unicycle-riding man called "The Treefriend." By the early 1960s, the illustrations depicted a light-skinned boy wearing a jeweled Indian-style turban with the tigers. A kids club, Sambo's Tiger Tamers (later called the Tiger Club), promoted the chain's family image.

That got used by the minstrel shows.

So on a scale of 1 to 10, how (racially) problematic was the original Sambo book?

"His reply was a resounding NO," the email said. "He is afraid that if one of his opponents were to get a hold of this information, that it would damage his campaign. He doesn't want his reputation to be hurt. Terry told him with the National Media already trying to make the tea party out as a bunch of racists his 'joke' would do more damage to the reputation of the tea party."

64. But it was only meant as a joke!
IF people took it "different" I apologize. :)

It's the same tactic employed by this racist, misogynist piece of trash Faircloth and racist, misogynist pieces of trash everywhere:

Faircloth referred to Pelosi as a "bimbo."

"Is she not one?" Faircloth said in a Tuesday evening telephone interview. "I mean, a lot of people think she is a bimbo; that's why they replaced Congress with Republicans, and they removed her as speaker. I don't find that as anything different than a political poke at her."

He also referred to Obama as a "Sambo," a term many consider racist.

"It was meant to be a joke, and if they took it different, I told the people there that I apologized," Faircloth said.

He added, "We've been tiptoeing around the president."

I liked it because Sambo out-witted the tigers. The butter thing was a little far fetched, but hey, I was like 4 at the time and such things were not beyond the realm of the possible. Eating all those pancakes? Now THAT seemed impossible!!!

But yeah, I'm sure he intended it as a racist term.
