On a lighter note, I praised a Junior High class today. |
|
My son and I were eating at a generic Chinese buffet restaurant...when in comes about 75 Jr,. High kids from Dallas ISD. They were courteous,well-mannered and friendly...every one. They took their turn on the line like ladies and gentlemen. Their teachers were friendly and supportive of the kids, very interactive.I took a teacher aside to tell him how mature and intelligent his students were. He thanked me, explaining they were from South East Dallas ... the same area my partner teaches in. I compared his students to ones I saw in The Highland Park ISD (Bush,Dallas). They were rude, obnoxious brats. I told him they all deserve praise for their manners and lively, pleasant conversation. He smiled. It was probably the first time he'd been told that outside the "comfort zone". DISD teachers are looking at losing 1000 more in the next fiscal year. I'll keep my fingers crossed. They have a GREAT group of teachers there...and great kids!

1. Nice to hear, w8, kind of reminds me |
|
of several sightings of French/Parisian kids + teachers. Visited couple weeks ago, and saw them at museums, very well-behaved and engaged, and of course loved watching teachers discussing ART!!!
:wow:

I'd 99.999% of teachers I've had experience with through my kids' schools over the years have been the most dedicated professionals I've ever had the pleasure to know. I cannot praise enough.

5. This whole society is still very Calvinistic.... more on criticism and very little on |
|
acknowledgement and praise.
Thanks for breaking that mold today!
I hope the teacher passed on the compliments to the kids....?

7. Aw, I can picture it! That's wonderful! |
|
Let me add to them... :applause:
:yourock:
There are people who don't believe in praise, and I understand their reasoning, but.... you know, especially with kids, and especially with kids who don't have a lot of self-confidence, and ESPECIALLY for people who get a lot of criticism..
I think that praise can add the dimension of PEACE that is so needed.
Thank you for doing that! :pals:
