Nuclear Fuel Meltdown at Fukushima Daiichi Confirmed
TOKYO, Japan, May 13, 2011 (ENS) - Tokyo Electric Power Company, operator of the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, revealed Thursday that nuclear fuel at one of the reactors is in a state of "meltdown."

TEPCO officials said that most of the fuel rods in the Unit 1 reactor have melted and fallen to the bottom of the reactor. They said cooling water in this reactor has fallen to a level that would expose those fuel rods that are still intact.

Holes have been created by melted nuclear fuel in piping at the bottom of the reactor's pressure vessel, allowing tons of water the company has been spraying into the reactor to cool the fuel to escape.

19. I applaud your bunnies and chipmunks...
...when you are facing the true reality of this situation--and not buying the baloney the MSM is selling--you need
bunnies and chipmunks to show up every so often.

And speaking of baloney selling. I figured after the meltdown was confirmed, the MSM would be abuzz with this
HUGE STORY. Not a peep from CNN, NYTimes, etc. I guess they're all in some board room together--figuring out
their new slogans, crafting their soundbytes and preparing a list that extols the amazing health benefits of
eating radioactive food and drinking cesium-laced milk.

BASTARDS.

More bunnies please.

6. We got a renaissance to protect
and this is last month's news.

Now get a missing blond into unit one and watch Nancy Grace...

Yes in bad taste, but sadly on point.

8. Hey Nadin, howdy down there..
How are things down San Diego way? It is supposed to rain a bit up here this weekend, at least that is the forecast for Sat night through Monday morning. I keep having these uneasy feelings that there is nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. Big warnings about this weekend's rainy deposit of the good stuff up here.

I was gifted with a website link by someone in the know:

http://vesica.org/main/holistic-health/articles/1162-radiation-update-april-2011#2

But knowing you, you already have it.

What do you think of the big tent idea by TEPCO?

You just can't make this up: proving that Japan can outdo even the Russians when it comes to nuclear crisis "response", Dow Jones reports that the latest scheme to come out of TEPCO is to cover Fukushima with a giant tent. It is unclear if it will have a circus coloration yet. From DJ: "Giant polyester covers will soon be placed around the damaged reactor buildings at Japan's Fukushima nuclear complex to help contain the release of radioactive substances into the atmosphere, the plant operator said Friday. Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) will install the first cover at the No. 1 reactor, the focus of recent stabilization efforts, starting next month." This probably means that Japan looked long and hard at the concrete shell option and realized it was impossible, which is true. The problem is that by now the melted cores are not in the complex, but deep beneath it and the radioactivity is actively seeping directly into the soil. And since the polyester tent idea is doomed to failure, it is only a matter of time before the Simpsons dome is firmly in place over a region with a radius of about 20 kilometers. Impossible you say? Just wait.

Pretty bizzare, eh?

But don't worry - even thought it's reached Level 7, it's "still not as bad as Chernobyl"!

Over and out from your Extreme Enviroweenie Spewing Biased Claptrap, have a sunny weekend!

13. Them talking points keep shifting
as to the rest... well, no milk for us (post accident, we still have some of the shelf stable, after that almond milk or soy)

And no leafy veggs. We buy what can be washed, very well.

18. So the Pacific will be one big
bowl of Radiation Soup, right? This isn't repairable, is it? That fooking GE design. Damn.

How do you plug a hole at the bottom of a meltdown that is spilling into the ocean? Isn't that what we are looking at?

I'd be investing in Duck Tape...not very funny. It comes in a variety of colors now. Saw it at Hobby Lobby yesterday....purple, even.

Someone has to think up a way to plug that hole...inject something very sticky. Where are the damn nuclear chemists when you need them?

As an aside: Do you think the US is bringing over all the smart Japanese people to help us start up our manufacturing base? If I were in charge, I'd do that. Then we could have jobs again. I doubt they'd want to go to China.

...BP could loan TEPCO their supply of golf balls that they used to plug the oil-gusher.

Don't these evil, inept corporate bastards communicate with each other?

ah, yes. The 'Junk Shot'....golf balls, hair, rubbish!

No, they definitely do not communicate with each other. Oil boyz hate the Nuke boyz....and vice versa. They are fierce competitors in a war to see who can bring Mother Nature to the abyss first!

21. A note on duct tape
as much as we like to make fun of it...

IT IS standard issue for HAZMAT teams... yes I went through rolls of the stuff (thankfully mostly in training evolutions)

The color... it is code for how sticky it is. Serious. Your standard gray is what we used to use for that crap. Oh and it will fix almost anything.

As to this, it will be fixed... but not fast enough.

22. I am a huge fan of
'duct' (I wrote duck because that cute critter is on the label). And WD-40.

Maybe that 'tent' that TEPCO was discussing will be made of duct tape.
