The AMERICAN PEOPLE...
This has always irritated me,throughout the campaign they tell us what the AMERICAN PEOPLE want as they ignore our voices.

They don't know the AMERICAN PEOPLE they only know a select group in their little town and many of the TEABAGGERS seemed to be truly upset as they discovered once Obama won the election that the majority of this country is not caucasian...

1. I think they believe it gives them some legitimacy.......
claiming to know what a nation of 300+ million want. Its really all bullshit.

4. The 24-hour news cycle needs to be fed..........
and these polls and pundits are a good source of red meat.

10. One problem is that..
some believe what they say just because they say they are a Democratic pollster and these same people appear on fox daily talking against Democrats and if they didn't put the label underneath you would think you were listening to a republiCON.

2. Anyone who uses the phrase, "The American People"
is lying. There is no such entity with regard to any particular issue. Never has been. The minute that expression pops out of the mouth of a politician, I know there's a lie about to emerge.

5. Exactly, because...
the AMERICAN PEOPLE have all types of interests and most of them are the same. Most,of those on tv and in the media don't know a damn thing about the AMERICAN PEOPLE because they only listen to one segment mainly.

I was watching the some reality shows this weekend because I hate football, and there wasn't anything good to watch. As I watched this one particular show, I couldn't get over the greed and selfishness and how the people in the show had everything and thought it wasn't good enough.

I kept thinking how these people would feel if they had to spend a few months living the lives of many AMERICANS who don't exist in their worlds..

8. Ivan Boesky's legacy has come to fruition......
"Greed is good" has become the new mantra.

As far as reality TV goes, I think its emblematic of where we are today as a country. Not to fall into the trap of speaking for everyone (which was the point of your OP), IMHO reality TV has legitimized voyeurism and has conditioned us to accept and aspire to constant drama and superficiality.
